From Peter Gammons news and notes column yesterday... just a small blurb but what the hey, any praise this team can get is worth posting. :D

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1861867

From one scout: "One of my favorite pitchers to watch is Zack Greinke. He is Greg Maddux. He commands his fastball in every quadrant of the strike zone, has two different curveballs and pitches to whatever the situation. He is really good."

****

It was the Phillies who were awarded the Carlos Beltran claim, but there was no deal to be made and the Astros pulled him back. Speaking of the Phillies, there are increased rumblings that Larry Bowa will survive, but there will be major offseason changes on the coaching staff.

Lets wait another... say, oh... 5-10 years before we start comparing him to one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

No need to.

His stuff is better. This isn't even debatable. He commands 4 pitches and can run a fastball up to 97.

This doesn't mean that Greinke's better or will be a HOFer.

But on stuff and stuff alone, there is no comparison between the two; Greinke is far more gifted.

Greinke will finish with a better career as long as he's healthy...

SC is now tabbing his as a cy young front runner and kruky is saying he's better than both cc and king felix

Wow Kruk, that's quite a leap. Way to go out on a limb. Idiot.

Completely agree. Zack's stuff is downright filthy. Maddux had unbelievable command. Maddux was nearly untouchable for the better part of 10 years. But I'd always kind of wonder how in the world he was doing it. With Zack, when he's been at his peak at the beginning of the season and here recently, there's no question.

I haven't seen grienke get the call for a ball that is a foot outside like maddux did

So how long before he's traded to the east coast or LAA?

Imagine if we still had Dye, Beltran, Ibanez, and numerous other players that have gone on to other teams to kick ass. We are just the big name team's farm club.

I saw the Baseball Tonight highlight package on him last night. I don't know a lot about pitching or baseball in general, but I do know that he was making some great hitters look stupid. Not just getting them out, making them look stupid.

Of all the great players that started in KC, I think the Royals have the best chance of keeping Greinke. I think he would mentally fall apart in a town like NY with the constant introspection of his every movement. I think he knows this too. The team stood by him when he went through his version of a mental breakdown and I am confident he knows he couldn't get away with that behavior elsewhere.

If you get a talent like him, any team would do whatever they can to get him right, i think it's a non issue anyway now

I am pretty certain that if nunez didn't snag jacobs, zack was next
