Yeah visit that link and download the Windows Installer (provided you're running windows.) It's a very small plugin for IE. After that simply click on the link that I provided at the top of the post and choose a place to save it.

Forward the BitTorrent Ports To Your Computer

Most hardware firewalls (such as firewall routers) have the capability for port forwarding. If you are running a software firewall (such a ZoneAlarm or BlackIce), then portforwarding is probably called something else, like "Application Internet Permissions" or somesuch. The BitTorrent client will normally use ports 6881 to 6889, so when you are adding the ports to your firewall, make sure you cover the whole block. Many newer BitTorrent clients have larger or changeable port ranges, so check with the instructions for your client software first. For most of these instructions you will need to know what your computer's IP address is. Under Windows NT, 200, and XP, go to Start >> Run >> type cmd and click OK >> at the prompt type ipconfig and press Enter. Under Windows 95, 98, or Me, go to Start >> Run >> type winipcfg and press Enter.

Is anyone running free zonealarm and if so where do I configure the ports it says to add to make file speed faster. 85 kb download and 38 upload with cable right now.

I have noticed my rate also decreased after I restarted the download today. It started out well but went to hell in a hand basket real quick. I have HOURS before it's done and I'm using cable. :cuss:

With only 2 seeds it's not gonna get much better. I know some of you others got this completed. Please help us out by opening that back up.

Also, why do you say you restarted the download today? I noticed you had begun it last night...why not let it run over night? Time will pass regardless of whether or not you're downloading anything. Even if it does take 2 days...then you'll have it. Close it...and you won't ever.

Anyway, hopefully we can get some more help here. My personal bandwidth is pretty much maxed is the problem. So my seed isn't doing much good anyway. It would actually be worse if I had it on the FTP right now.

Hang in there...they'll finish.

How do I get a stalled download to continue??? I've got about half of this downloaded now??? I'll probably have to do it tomorrow since the power keeps shutting off...

You can resume the download at any time. If it stalls then it's probably a problem on my end and I'll get it fixed ASAP. To resume, just open the torrent file again and point it to the same exact directory where you've got the partial download. It will go through a "checking" stage and then continue from where it left off.

how do you open up seeds

I'm going to post another thread with a quick tutorial for torrent so people can understand. I don't think we're all getting the whole seed idea...

See...somebody is downloading at 150kb/sec right now. If we could get everybody who's on right now to stay that file would never go below that. and it's not even that many. there's 10 people on there now. We just need to keep the links popular enough i guess...???

If you have torremtsorm installed...it'll sit very nicely in your task bar. With just these 10 people, the next time somebody wanted to download the file they could get it fast. Then, you don't even have to worry about your own bandwidth being used and slowing down your connection. Torrent is king!

--?? 30 completed downloads and only 1 other person is seeding besides myself. :( Everybody downloading right now could have been done before they went to sleep.

Sweet Deal! 8 seeders now. Only 1 person d/l at the moment...but he's downloading at 180kb/sec and it won't take him long at all. then we'll have 9 seeders (ideally). Again, please leave these open as long as possible. Even if it doesn't look like there's any action. Leaving it open in torrentstorm or another client will allow it constantly seed and you'll never even know it's there. You can even choke the upload to 10kb/sec or something like that so that even when it is uploading you've still got almost all your bandwidth to do your own things.

Thanks to all you seeders out here helping me out!

R&GHomer

Yup. Click the link just like you're gonna download it. Browse to the exact directly where you've already got it stored. It'll go through a checking stage really quick and then start seeding.

Thanks!

In torrent storm under the View -> Settings section there's an Associate button right in the middle. Of course, that will associate torrent files with TorrentStorm. Then just open any like normal and it should open up with TorrentStorm. You'll still give it a directly of course...but then the torrent should be managed inside the torrentstorm window.

If you've got the .torrent file saved locally you can open it from within torrentstorm using the open torrent button.

DRU
09-08-2004, 11:52 PM
Yeah, please don't drop the connections just because you don't see anybody currently pulling. That way when they do pull it'll be nice and quick and you won't even have to lose much bandwidth. Also, if there's enough seeders for a file and few people are downloading we could even max out the total downloads caps for them all. Say there's 100 people seeding. It wouldn't take the max of all 100 to allow a few people speeds of over 100kb/sec. So just because your upload looks like it's slow doesn't mean there's no action. A few people turn these off and boom...SLOW again.

If you're getting slow downloads you are probably behind a router, software firewall or both. If so, you'll need to open ports 6881-6889. This will allow more people to connect to you...and in turn allows for more shared bandwidth and way faster downloads.

When you open up the torrent again you have to point it to the directory where you've already got the entire thing downloaded. Instead of downloading it will do a "checking" process and then start "sharing."
