I will risk $100.00 in real money in a fantasy league but usually don't bet real money on football games. Texas Hold em is my game if choice to gamble my life savings away on...

I played last year for the first time. I didn't think I would do very well picking against the line, so I kept my bets small in the beginning so I could play all year. Turned out I did pretty well (up something like $30K for the season).

Whenever I had a good week I'd say to my wife "I won $4000 in my picks this week." She'd respond, "Too bad it wasn't real money."

The next week I'd say, "My picks didn't go so well this week, I lost $2500." Her: "I'd kill you if that were real money!" Me: "But I'm up $20k for the year." Her: "It wouldn't matter, I'd still kill you."

I was doing really well until one week where I bet a bunch on a couple of easy games, and every team that was favored lost, badly.

If you want to bet real money, but don't want to risk a lot to win a lot, I have the perfect bet.

$10 ten team parlay. Obviously the odds are astronomical, but the pay out is more so. Depending on the juice, it can pay in excess of $7000. Just think of it as a weekly pool that has a ten dollar entry. And if you win it just once, you'll be able to make that bet for the rest of your life and still come out ahead (about 40 years).

Obviously you'll have to find someone to book it...locals won't touch it because of the risk/reward factor for them...but casinos live and die by the odds, so they'll do it.

I've won one on Pros, and hit 9 on college and then hedged my bet to win half on the last game. That's the other thing...hedging. If you put the Monday night game in the parlay, and you hit the first nine on Sunday, then you can just put a couple thousand on the other side of the Monday night game and guarantee a payday.

Yes. I use an Online book for the bets that I'm referring to. My main site is www.sportfanatik.com (http://www.sportfanatik.com/) ...they aren't the biggest (or most advertised), but I've been there a long time and I always get paid. The other one I use is www.betonsports.com (http://www.betonsports.com/) which is much more famous, but I don't like the layout of the site. It has too much clutter, but it also offers some different bets that my other site doesn't.

One thing to consider about online sites is how they pay out. I leave my money in all football season, rather than withdrawing my winnings, so I don't need a site that pays fast (I usually get a check in about one week when I cash out at the end of the season). If you want to collect your winnings every week, you might want to keep that in mind.

The other thing to remember is, unlike a "guy I know" bookie who will run you credit, online sites require you to deposit the money that you're betting. I think it's a good thing, because then people don't bet money they don't have. I usually put in a large deposit at the beginning of the season becasue they offer "redeposit bonuses" before any big betting season.

EDITED TO ADD: My username is jspchief and my e-mail is jspchief@msn.com For anyone joining either site, I get a referral bonus, so feel free to hook me up.

I don't wanna clutter up the bets thread and make things harder on KCW.

I hope I don't do well in this game. Last thing I need is encouragement to start betting real dollars on football games. I lose enough money in other forms of gambling as it is.
Post it where you like - it's not like you or I are noobs on the board anyway.

And yes, if you do well, you tend to get a big head. I had a substantial lead last year and lost every single penny in one week. I was somewhere around 50-60k, I think.

Just remember, it is the NFL.

For instance. Everyone who bets, herd mentality, now probably are jumping on Denvers bandwaggon like they are fuggin world beaters. But everyone has maintained that they have lost offensive weapons, but the Chiefs D made it look as if they are world Beaters.

Knowing this, you go bet for the Jaguars, cause the Broncs aren't that good, and the Chiefs aren't that bad. The mentality of the herd overreacts from week to week. This will inflate the lines one way or another. If my gut doesn't give me a picture on a game, I just leave it alone.

Just chit house luck, thats all.

Screw "herd" mentality. I merely follow trends. If Mia beats the spread 6 weeks in a row, chances are I am already riding that train for at least 2 games.

I don't normally be big money on football; just enough to have a decent amount if I win vs something that's not a big deal if I lose. Say, how does these sound...:

San Francisco at New Orleans
Washington at NY Giants
Denver at Jacksonville (I really hate to have to do this...well, let's just say: I'm not wanting Denver to win, I'm wanting Jacksonville to lose.)
Pittsburgh at Baltimore
St. Louis at Atlanta ( :Lin: We all gotta puke after having to write/type that in, don't we?
Houston at Detroit
Chicago at Green Bay
Indianapolis at Tennessee
Carolina at Kansas City (Go Chiefs!)
Seattle at Tampa Bay
Cleveland at Dallas
Buffalo at Oakland
New England at Arizona
NY Jets at San Diego
Miami at Cincinnati
Mon, Sep 20 TIME (ET)
Minnesota at Philadelphia
