Watching the halftime show last night and remembering Brett Favre's performance on Monday night after his father died, I was trying to think of anything in any sport that was comparable.

I really couldn't think of anything.

I know Jordan had some performances that were amazing, but nothing near as emotional.

I know the Elway/Montana game might be the best MNF game ever, but again... it just didn't have the back-story. It was just another world class performance, if there can be such a thing.

What "legendary" peformances have you seen?

Why?

1st pro game in NY area after the 9/11 tragedy. Sang God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch. Tributes. Piazza won it with a HR in the 8th. Not a single legendary performance, but it was sentimental and heartfelt and a legendary sports moment IMO.

Other legendary moments: Douglas KO Tyson.

Are you kidding? Nothing comparable?

USA Olympic hockey team defeating the Soviets was a much better story.

There have been quite a few sports moments that equaled the Brett Favre one. Elway's first SB win, there were even AFCW rival fans rooting for him just because of the "story".

Seen in person? Mark McGwire's 67th and 68th homers in the same game to pass Sosa for good in 1998.

My favorite Michael Jordan performance was the flu game. That was in the Finals, everything on the line, and MJ has to be physically carried back to the bench during timeouts because he was so sick... vomiting, all that jazz. Somehow he still scored 38 points including the clutch baskets at the end.

I could name 8 billion Larry Bird performances... the steal against the Pistons, the duel with Dominque Wilkins was incredible, the night he scored 60 against the Hawks and was so on fire that the Hawks bench was celebrating and high-fiving each other when Bird hit baskets....

No, I said I "couldn't think of anything".

I knew there were a few that could compare.

US Hockey for sure.
*Maybe*, Jordan's 4th Championship (1st after returning from father's death).

I don't think Elway's 1st superbowl compares though. JMO.

I can't remember the year, IIRC it was 93 or 94, but the NBA playoffs the Lakers beat the Suns and took a 3-0 series lead, and coach Paul Westphal said "we will win 4 in a row, and take the series"....and with the help of Barkley, KJ, Ainge, and Majrle, he did.

Just to be clear, that would not have been me.

I've seen many of the Key NFL moments of the last 30+ years live on TV, especially the playoffs.

Dwight Clark's "the catch"
Franco's Immaculate reception
Bear's loss to Miami on MNF in '85
Jets/Miami come back game
Buffalo comeback against Houston
Music city miracle
Kellen Winslow game SD vs Miami
KC vs Miami
etc. etc. etc.

I'm sure many on the board have done the same.

It was the first round series, best of 5, they dropped the first two games, at home, after having the best record in the league that year. Westphal also said that if they didn't come back and win the series, he should be fired. Gutsy...

If that's true it's prolly cause they thought he'd retire if he won.
