• SANTIAGO DONE: Royals general manager Allard Baird confirmed catcher Benito Santiago won't play again this season.

Santiago has made a slow recovery from a broken left hand suffered June 18 when hit by a pitch from Phillies reliever Geoff Geary.

Santiago batted .274 with six homers and 23 RBIs in 49 games before his injury.

Good, Buck needs to keep playing. I'm hoping Benito accepts the backup role next year...

BOR-ING!

You passed on a perfect opportunity to pile on a ridiculous "news" item. I'm VERY disappointed.

I expected Dr. McCoy, and you gave me Spock. :harumph:

That was stupid. You are now banashed to sit in the corner while being forced to watch every Royals game played this season.

You mean Benito Santiago hasn't retired or been cut yet?

There's no reason to cut him, we'd eat the salary either way, and he'd certainly be better than a lot of other backup catcher options... unless we find a good deal for him he'll probably be back next year.

Question is, will they lose a hundred ?

94 now and how many to play ?

Not good for the home team.

Need to go 8-5 the rest of the way to avoid 100 losses. It all depends in how we play the White Sox... we play Tampa for two more games, Cleveland three times, and the White Sox 8 times. It could be done, if they do it, it would be quite a feat considering a bunch of young guys cleaned up the mess started by a bunch of underachieving vets. At least they've played well enough where it's now possible to avoid 100 losses... at the beginning of this month (and the month before... and the month before), you would've thought there was absolutely no chance of avoiding 100 losses.

Benito and Juan Gone discover they are soul mates sheltered in Juan's Luxurious Caribbean Hide Away. It's a story of forbidden baseball love...one Multi-Millionaire with a bad back..one Multi-Millionaire with a sore hand. Coincidence??? Watch for it on Bravo, coming in October!!
