I'm thinking about the odds of all these super fug-you storms forming and then smashing the southeast and wondering what the odds are...

Is it possible this is some new type of system or weather pattern or just a 1 inna' billion deal?

Both. I haven't been paying attention to global-scale patterns but I have heard we are entering a new phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation (a decadal cycle) as well as entering another El-Nino. Whether those have anything to do with this year's whacked out hurricane season I'm not sure, but I have a hunch they do.

Now for the number of hurricanes that have actually hit Florida, that is just plain bad luck. Well mostly. We've been in a troughy pattern all summer which has kept storms confined to the eastern Gulf and eastward.

Weirdest yet of the season may be how Ivan just circled the Atlantic seaboard and has now crossed into Louisiana for a second US landfall.
