View Full Version : For all of you in the "go for it on 4th down" crowd, you see what happens?

I've gotten lambasted for defending the team for "taking the points", particularly early in the game.

How do you feel about going for it on 4th now?

I feel the same way, you never take the points off the board, puts too much pressure on your team. We got beat by some good teams, we will get em next week

Wrong situation. With an EASY (read: short) FG, you take the points; when it's 50yds and your RB is averaging 6ypc, you go for it.

DV made the wrong decision again.

yeah, I'll admit it. I was wrong, but hey a NFL coach agreed with me so I don't feel like a total idiot. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Totally different situation. I don't think many of us in the "go for it on fourth down crowd" were calling for that TODAY.

You say "take the points." Last week, "the points" weren't there for the taking. We had to make nearly a 50 yard field in order to "take the points." Today it would have been a chipshot. Totally different situation.

Bottom line, "take the points" when they're there for the taking. Go for it when you have to get a 50 yarder from a rookie kicker.

Not as bad as I do about Sanders throwing and not using Holmes near the endzone. What a fugtard move that was.

Exactly!! Right calls.....but he chose the wrong weeks and wrong situations to make them...sometimes i wonder whats going through DV's head????

It would have been a smart move to go for it on 4th down last week instead of kick a 50 yard field goal with an unproven kicker. This week it wasn't a good idea because those were definite points on the board with how short of a field goal it was. And that whole "taking the points" there is no such thing as taking the points with a 50 yarder.

:thumb: Totally agree, it depends on the down and distance and where the ball is at on the field. I would have kicked the field goal in this situation.

As frustrating as it is to the fans, the head coach needs to tune out the crowd and do what is best for the team. In this situation, I think the coach was trying to exorcise some demons haunting him from the last game. Hopefully this will send a wake up call to the coach to ignore the pleadings of the fans, and to the crowd to quit cheering to go for it on fourth down. Play the percentages coach!

4th and 1 from the 30-40? You go for it.

4th and 2 from the 2 yard line. You kick for the points.

Going for it on 4th isn't a bad thing with this offense, but when you're inside the 5 early in the game you kick for the points.

Fact is this game could have been won so many different times during the game and the Chiefs blew it each and every time. Some of it is because of the crappy play-calling by the coaches, some of it is because of the crappy throw by Green, and some of it is because our defense seems more successful stopping opponents at 3rd and 1 than they are 3rd and 17.

Why point a finger at the fans that want to go for it, clearly the coaching staff agreed with them as they made the decision to do it....So the fans are no more dumber or smarter than the coaching staff.

The "See what I told ya" thread should be pointed at this dumb as franchise and it's GM for not going out and trying to upgrade the talent at WR and on defense like everyone under the sun knew they needed to do.

First off, welcome back. Secondly, MURPHY'S FREAKING LAW.

Instead of "Murphy's Law" they need to change it to "Chiefs Law". If bad things are going to happen in a game you can guarantee they will happen to the Chiefs.

P.S. Nice to see ya Sky.

I thought I would be having a meltdown by now but I am not really that mad or upset just disappointed. I said in the offseason that if we stand pat with our team we may suck this year just like we did in 96 and 98.

Any time you can kick a FG and go up by 7 you should kick the FG.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

We have lost 2 games at home, and I can't see things getting better. On the road to Balt is a loss next Monday, then we still have to play Indy and the Pats at home, thats another 2 loses. I think it will be a long, long season.

I said "Go For it" on thegame thread, but I was pretty much joking around. But really, when they haven't stopped you running the ball all day, why not go for it? I'm much more for going for it inside the 40 though instead of punting, there the obvious thing to do was take the points and we should have.
