Found some tortured animals in my yard Saturday

My wife woke me up Saturday morning to tell me about a group of young squirrels with their tails stuck together. I went out front to find 5 immature squirrels trying desprately to move around with their tails in a big tangled nasty mess. They stank something awful and there were flies all over them. She talked me out of euthanizing them so I instead took them to the Lakeside Nature Center where they handle wild animal rescues. The center called back later to tell us the tails had been maliciously braided together.

Now I'm thinking back about some of the other dead animals I've found in my yard over the last few years and wondering if we've got some kind of psychotic neighbor earning his merit badges towards full blown homicidal sociopath.
