Adam needs to be humbled. He is just a little too cocky for me with that little sh** eatin grin he has. Hope to hell he is wrong. Imagine what Shanny could do with a Trio or LJ,Bowe and TG

Maybe Pioli did exactly as he said he would do, talk to Edwards and Clark about it until he made a decision. Everyone else has been sure he was making a deal with someone or negotiating. Maybe not, and that would explain what they're saying about Shanahan now --there has been nothing. That would also explain matters with Haley --he's not going to be negotiating with anyone while in the middle of preparing his team for the SB.

Now Pioli has made his decision, and now he has an opening for HC. If Haley really is a candidate you're still not going to see Pioli talking to him until after the SB --the longer we wait now, the likelihood that Haley is it increases. But if someone spots Shanahan in talks with KC now that Herm is gone, look out! I don't care what Schefter says, these guys do play it close to the vest, and no one necessarily knows what the other is doing. Media wants to scoop the story. These coaches and execs want to control it.

I still think Shanahan would take less money from the Chiefs to just run the sidelines in the right situation (read: Pioli-led operation) and cause some mayhem in the AFC West.

Precisely! Shanny knows the opponents and he knows he is in a weak-ass division and could conceivably win this next yr.

I think that about sums it up, I guess.

My only hard stance on this is that Schefter has been as reliable as it comes when it comes to information surrounding Shanahan. It would be news in and of itself if Schefter got this wrong, because it will mean that Schefter - a guy who ghost wrote Shanahan's book and has a long and well established history with him - has had the carpet pulled out from under his feet by the man who has long been his bread and butter.

At this point in time, I see no reason not to believe Schefter when he says "I know for a fact they've not had contact to this point. The Chiefs may in fact reach out to him in the coming days and even then I firmly believe it will not change anything."

Note that he said SHANAHAN and the Chiefs have not had contact.

He said nothing about Shanahan's agent.

I tend to agree. And if Schefter is saying Cowher is at the top of our list, I'm curious to see if Pioli can convince Chin to come west...

Well, everybody just conveniently ignored it the first time so I'll say it again:

Where was Cowher last weekend? He wasn't sitting at the desk. And though I may be wrong, I believe that was ALSO the case the weekend before.

I remember watching both Championship games and wondering where the **** he was.

I am having a really hard time believing that Pioli fired Herm without having a fairly firm option to replace him. He wasn't going to fire Herm and then hope there was a viable option out there. I think the reason it took so long to fire Herm was because Pioli was going to keep him if he didn't find a replacement. They still have to go through the motions of giving interviews for the Rooney Rule but I think they have their man already.

I don't know if that is Shanahan or Cowher or what but there is an awful lot of smoke around the Rat rumors.

Rooney Rule is what I was thinking every time I saw the ESPN crawl that the Rat was about to be the new HC.

How could they can Herm and be negotiating with the Rat when a minority was not interviewed?

Pioli is bringing his smoke and mirrors.
