I would normally agree but the way we are dropping passes it is more than a scratch in your paint.

We had 3 straight 3 and outs because they couldn't hold onto a pass on 3rd down.

He didnt start very often. Seems like an injury or two forced him into the role. He only averaged like 20-25 receptions per season in SD.

He started every game for the Chargers that he was healthy for after the trade from the Dolphins.

Seems like you don't know who the hell Chris Chambers is prior to coming to the Chiefs.

Coaches like it as well.

For a second round pick.

Like throwing a screen to a RB that is blocking?

No, dumbass.

Like hitting the crossbar with a 26 yard hail-mary.

I'd recommend gracefully bowing out of this particular conversation.

Just act like you have the runs and ask to be excused.

It's the best you're going to do.

Thing is, as bad as this problem is, it's A problem, singular. A problem that can be focused on and ameliorated with enhanced attention or new personnel in short order. The routes are being run right, people are getting open, the line is providing protection, the running game is still there for you. A million things going right and one [admittedly crucial] thing going wrong.
The problems with the D have exponential causes and ameliorating them could take years of work, even if tackled with perfect analysis and attention.

And that's not even delving into the age old question of whether it's more important to have a great passing game or defense to achieve ultimate success in the NFL.

I don't think the defense is that far away from becoming respectable ... not superb ... but significantly better. Vrable notwithstanding, we're still pretty darn young on that side of the ball.

We need a couple of serious playmakers ... a linebacker and a safety would be nice. Also somebody who can play nose with stoutatude. We also need a new DC, of course.

That should only take a couple of years if we are aggressive in FA and can hit on a couple of draft picks.

And FTR, it's not so much the relative fail of the two issues as it is the utter fail of the defense in recent weeks and singling out drops, DROPS, as the single most dispiriting thing in his life. And part of it is just knowing it's because he has soooo much invested in his cred as being able to coach up WRs.
Basically, I strongly sense that Haley could not care less about the defense. 'Meh, they'll get it worked out.' But WR play? That shit's personal.
You want to be a position coach, be a position coach.
If we had a punting 'guru' as our head coach with this exact same team, and he stated that the recent dropoff in punting production was the most dispirating thing he'd ever suffered, would you be as quick to leap to his support?

so you are for Bowe being cut or traded? Chambers has had the case of the drops as well. They really have thrown alot of players at that position and it still happens.

What? Did I say anything about Bowe?

Interestingly enough, I would have went the other way. I feel like the offense could actually be closer. A center and QB, along with a backup RB and possibly a WR (in the 2011 draft), would be on my radar for the future.

Defense will need a NT, 3 LB's (Vrabel, and both MLB's), and most likely 2 new safties.

Well BL almost every year in the NFL there is a team that the year before they sucked on D and the next year they are in the Top 5-10. It is not like it is impossible.

For example Green Bay went from 20 last year to 2 this year. Denver went from 29 last year to 3 this year.

But you are right it should take years. You should really go back to DC you do much better over there.

When is it going to be our year to do this? Yes, other teams have made the jump, but we've been dog shit, generally speaking, since '03.

My guess: it will happen when we get competent people in charge.

Have a Snickers.
