The fact that Matt Cassel now has the upside of only Trent Green from his most optimistic supporters shows how stupid the trade was, and how galactically mong-ish his contract is.

Wait til you guys see Cassel's highlight film. It will include clips of him running for his life and getting piss pounded. Those were some of his finest moments last year.

I think its safe to say that there is nothing you could tell me about Trent Green that I do not know. Not being a dick, just a fact. I wanted him in KC before anyone and I followed his career with great interest well before he arrived. Did you know that Trent was so "extremely good" that, rather than match his St Louis contract they let him walk and then, Washington traded a 1st round & 3rd in the 99 draft and a 2000 2nd to Minnesota for Brad Johnson? Norv was still there, but he let Trent walk and his "extremely good" numbers didn't stop him. His numbers in Washington were fair and he showed potential, considering what he had to work with Martz was encouraged (just like Pioli & McDaniels were encouraged with Cassel) and gave him a nice contract to come to the Rams, 4 years $16 mil compared to the 4 years $12 mil that Washington had been offering. Then Washington signed Jeff George a year later to "backup" Brad Johnson with a 4 year $18 million contract. If you can't follow the parallels between Cassel & Green, or it just pisses you off to admit that there are more than a few then fine, but don't act like there are none. For those that are trying to draw the comparisons, I'm saying that you have to look at both his 98 season in Washington and his 2000 season in St Louis. 98 season in terms of his first season as a starter, 00 season in terms of similar talent. The 2000 Rams had a far more talented team than NE in 2008, but both were much more talented than what Green had to work with in Washington. Both led the league in sacks their first season seeing significant PT, Green w/ 49 in 1998 and Cassel w/47 in 2008. Both struggled with sacks their first season in KC. Green with 39, Cassel with 42. Both of their completion % dropped thru the floor once they arrived. Cassel 08 - 63.4% / 09 - 54.2% Green 00 - 60.4% / 01 - 56.6% Cassels dropoff in completion % is my biggest concern. Green's dropped by 3.8%, Cassel's dropped 9.2%. That's HUGE. Green at least remained fairly consistent in spite of having a huge dropoff at the WR position. Then there are the team parallels that I don't see how you could ignore. New offense, new coaching staff, emerging running back that came out of nowhere, late season addition & immediate impact WR added off of waivers to fix a crappy WR group, piss poor offensive line. Yeah, I don't know why anyone would draw comparisons between the two. |
