All I can say about that is he also seemed to like Lance Long, but he was shown the door..same goes for a lot of guys Haley brought in that didnt work out.

Its the GMs job to bring in the players, not Haleys.

Pioli allowed the team to go into 2 NFL seasons with Palko on the 53 man roster.

THink about that for a second...especially after knowing everything about the Cassel situation.

I dont care how bad the next guy looks in practice...he gets a chance because Palko was that bad.

It's possible that there are semi decent reasons for leaving Stanzi on the bench, is all I am saying.

I can think of several very good and rational reasons to keep Stanzi out of action.

People just want something that represents hope, I think. Desperation sets in and you just need something to cling to like a squeezy tittah in a violent storm. I call it, "Tempestuous Tittah Syndrome" and all Chiefs fans suffer from it from time to time.

To my understanding, the main reason Haley was let go was so that Pioli would have a shot at choosing between three guys to be the new Head Coach for next year. I am guessing Josh McDaniels might be one of the prospects, but I hope he isn't picked.

Tyler Palko teetered on the brink of NFL INFAMY.

There aren't any decent reasons for leaving anybody on the bench. Unless you don't care about winning.

Todd Haley is a liar.

I've always felt the most likely explanation was Pioli having some grand plan to groom Stanzi that involved him taking the Aaron Rodgers approach to his first few years. And Pioli being so married to that plan that even in the face of this year's QB trainwreck, he refused to deviate.

It's even plausible to me that Haley reached his limit on trotting out Failco, and said Stanzi plays or I go, and that's what resulted in him being fired now vs at seasons end.

Of course that's just as speculative as the opinion that Haley actually liked Failco. Unless there's info I missed confirming that?

Good post.

Haley knew he was getting fired. He didn't have anything to lose pulling Palko and putting Stanzi in. At worse, Stanzi looks like crap, but at least Haley tried. At best, Stanzi plays well and Haley and Pioli look good for drafting and developing him.

Haley's love of Palko goes back to preseason. Palko got to run with the first team. When Cassel hurt is ribs in the final game, it was Palko who got to play the ENTIRE game. 4th preseason game always equals play the scrubs. Haley chose to play Palko. They have a small connection back to Pitt.

I understand it is the "in" thing to kick Pioli now that Haley is gone. Pioli certainly deserves blame, but to think Haley couldn't have pulled Palko in the 3rd or 4th quarter is a joke.

With the whole Palko vs Stanzi thing, I think it boils down to one of two options.

A - You believe Todd Hailey legitimately believe Palko was better and therefore was crazy.

B - It was a big F U to Scott Pioli. Todd knew he was getting fired a long time ago. So he wouldn't even play Scott's draft pick or play the guy they just blew 6 mil on.

You don't fire a guy with 3 games remaining because you want to have a shot at specific coaches.

You can't talk to anyone on another staff until season's end, and any respectable former coach is not going to talk to you unless their position is completely vacant, meaning that there isn't even an interim coach in place.

If you want your choice of candidates, you fire your head coach the second the final whistle blows in the final game.
