I've never thought of Peter King as a football analyst.

He's more of a Harvey Levin-type guy to me. Someone with connections that reports but doesn't actually have a technical mind.

The technical mind, for as long as I can remember, was Dr. Z. But he had the stroke and never recovered fully.

I didn't know that about Dr. Z, or at least didn't remember it if I ever did. That sucks; he was a good read. I kinda figured he just retired.

King should credit whoever actually wrote that.

If you click on the link, the writer's picture and name are listed: Andy Benoit.

He had two strokes in 2008 that have left him unable to talk or write.

I had a subscription to Sports Illustrated in the late 70's and enjoyed his writing from then up until he was incapacitated. It would really be interesting to hear his candor on such topics as the rookie wage scale, the new CBA, concussions, etc.

It's a really a shame.

I miss Dr. Z.

I'm younger so I only caught his later years, but he was an awesome read. My favorite guy bar none until he had to stop writing.

I'm not sure people are aware of this, but MMQB is more than just a column now. It's a website with it's own stuff.

I'm not a fan of Peter and never have been, but there's actually been some really good stuff there about KC's season all year. 3-4 articles. He seems to be surrounded by people better than him.

Did not know that.

The thing about Peter King is that he's never claimed to be the smartest guy in the room. For years, he always made fun of his predictions, whether it was the Super Bowl or fantasy football.

He must be a decent guy because he's like the Barbara Walters of football. He always gets the great interviews and he's always been connected. If you're a dick, you don't get that kind of access.

And he has been smart with TheMMQB in hiring young, sharp people to his team.
