I don't go to BBQ joints for their sides, I go for their meats. I couldn't care less about cole slaw or cheesy corn. Give me some lean brisket, lean pulled beef or pork but most importantly, excellent burnt ends.

Also, I don't go for brown sugary sauces, I like spicier sauce. On the rare occasion that I've picked up BBQ in LA, I always use Gates, Zarda or Rufus Teague sauces.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I like Bryants. Their ribs are great.

Smoking gun in nkc is pretty cool and good but it's not up there with the big guys yet

I don't go for the sides either but I have to get beans. Also I am tired of pulled pork so I get either brisket, burnt ends or my favorite which is turkey.

When I rip on Bryants its always about the sauce the meat is fine and smoked perfectly. I mostly use the sauce on the sandwich and to dip my fries in. The sauce is on the side if i choose to dip the meat in and very seldom on ribs. If I could sneak a bottle of Rosedales in I would be fine there.

We had a friday ritual in school that after clinic friday mornings we'd hit up BBQ for lunch. The Bryants in the jazz district was always my favorite.

Beans are the exception as it relates to sides because of the inclusion of the beef, etc. If done right, these are potentially as unique to the experience as the meat itself because of the richness and complexity.

I've always loved beans, if they're done right, but don't need cheesy corn and slaw to complete the meal.

I'm not a fan of Gates, but their smoked turkey is great.

Something like a BBQ place might have a very misleading Yelp score if your goal is just to eat great BBQ. A lot of people downgrade based on ambience, service, and the quality of non BBQ menu items. (First bad review I saw started out going off on the potato skins)

No idea if this place is good. Just pointing out Yelp isn't the end all be all.

OK. I'm going to mosey on down to The Stack and try their dinner for two. Might as well go HAM. Not literally. I'll get ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork and sausage.

TinyEvel 07-13-2015 01:49 PM

I just ate there last night for the third time.

I will say that their chicken is the most moist and juicy I've had.

At nearly 6 dollars after taxes the rings should be good. Rings normally have a markup over fries but that $5.35 price tag seems really high.
