Jacksonville's defense is Super Bowl ready right now. And sure they're pretty young, but not all of their defenders are. That team will be ready to make the leap this offseason after getting a taste of success this year and they likely aren't going to be in position to draft a QB that's worth a damn, if any are.

If I'm Veach, I demand their 1st. They will bite.

They're not going to give up on a 25-year old QB that easily IMO.

Oh I think they will. They know what he is. He is a turnover machine and he almost blew another game last week until the Chargers did their thing. Not to mention he has a massive 5th year option in 2018 pending.

Jacksonville 'needs' an Alex Smith. It's the perfect set up. He gets to lean on their defense and Leonard Fournette, and they have a really good set of WRs. They will want a QB who just takes care of the ball and lets their defense win games.

It's a marriage made in Heaven, but it will come at a cost.

AJ McCarron isn't 34 years old.

He's also never established himself as even a decent starter.

Oh.

Yeah, they can cut him and save 20 million ****ing dollars.

Problem is there will be other, cheaper veteran QB options for Jax to pick from then paying a high price for Alex Smith. Alex maybe be the best of the crop but he will also be the most expensive salary wise and what they would have to give up to get him.

Well, that's why we really need him to get back on track and avoid any more of these pumpkin Smith games. If he finishes the year strong and truly does look like a MVP candidate, his value will match the price.

Not to mention, Bortles' 2018 option is near $20M anyways, so Jacksonville was already theoretically planning on having to pay a QB that much money.

yea but if Jax is looking at a 1st for Smith or a 4th for Eli to get them to the same place next year which is like 10-6, 11-5 and a playoff loss, then the cheaper option is a no brainer, they can use the 1st to keep stacking their defense.

this is only if you look at the assets as more valuable then a 34 year old QB on a 18 million cap hit which maybe NFL GMs have finally started to learn their lesson?

Surely NYG will want more than a 4th for Manning... if that's all they are willing to give, then yeah, we'd need to look for alternatives

All of this is true, its ideal for all sides involved

Not so sure they pony up a #1 though, getting back the two seconds we gave up would be perfect though
