If YouTubeTV let me sign up and and watch, one off for $15, I would grumble but do it.

But I am not getting my credit card out and registering for another site even if I can cancel two days later.

I will boycott watching the game.

I mean you do you but wow choose your battles man

I get the concern about people with shitty internet and people who aren't tech savvy, such as seniors. I don't get the concern over $6. Watching Mahomes and Kelce in the playoffs is worth more than a value meal from McDonald's. Just cancel it the next day.

So you're gonna go spend 5x the price of Peacock at a sports bar instead? Makes sense...

I agree. I never really have to stream full games, just pieces when my kids demand we go somewhere in the house without a TV or they want to watch, and in an hour so period, beyond the annoyance of a few minute delay, every 10-15 minute it freezes, gets pop ups or just stops working which is followed by the dozen clicks routine to get another one. I believe people are just used to the issues and combined with the motivation to make it satisfactory, they are overlooking how often issues arise.

That’s why I got Sunday Ticket this season since I could finally do it without any other subscription and it was worth every penny.

I can say that all season Universal execs have been frothing at the mouth at the idea of getting Taylor Swift exposure and we literally have a plan in place if the Chiefs make the AFC championship or not. Like, it's affecting which :30 spots from which movies we're placing. So it doesn't really surprise me that Peacock spent $110m on getting exclusive access. I'm not a huge fan of this but also Peacock is 6 bucks. You can sign up then cancel after a month.

I'm sure you're a nice person, but if you have any affiliation with comcast I absolutely despise you. No offense.

And I haven’t ever paid for it

New World Order 01-07-2024 11:42 PM

Its 10 bucks LMAO

mr. tegu 01-07-2024 11:43 PM

They paid $110 million for the game. So at 5.99 per subscription they need a little over 18 million subscription payments from this to break even. They definitely won’t get 18 million individual subscriptions but I’m guessing they are counting on people forgetting to cancel or people just keeping it to make this worthwhile.

I don't think paying $6 for Peacock leaves me worse off than when I was paying $60 or $80 for cable TV.

But it does for out of state people like me who pay for Sunday ticket. That’s like 450 bucks. Then you add ESPN to that equation. Oh wait you’ll also need Prime now for every Thursday game instead of fox like usual. And what if a game is on NFL network? I have to drive somewhere to watch it.

And this year you need Peacock. The pattern is more and more $ and hassle for the same product. There are tons of nfl fans not fortunate enough to live where their team is. And even if you do… tons of people such as myself love watching other games. Football season is all about watching 2-3 games a day if they are good games.

The NFL should have made one big streaming service with every game on it. Dedicated solely to NFL games and news, skits, documentaries etc. That way you’d pay a subscription and be covered.

But of course that’s not enough $$ and would be too simple and fair.

Rain Man 01-07-2024 11:52 PM

So there's talk about "it's only six bucks". Well, okay, but the goal is that they'll get people to forget to cancel and that stuff. The goal of peacock is to make more than six bucks.

But that's not where I'm drawing the line in the sand.

I hate comcast. I hate them worse than I hate terrorists. They're the most unethical, sleazy company on the planet. Two weeks ago - two weeks! - I was on the phone with one of their "corporate escalation" people about a 30 percent increase in my bill. I won't go into detail about that, but at the end of the conversation she said, "Oh, and you get a free subscription to peacock premium". She said it two or three times, and I was all, "screw that. It'll be some kind of stupid unethical trick because it's comcast and they're criminals."

So today I sigh and think, okay, I'll try to get on their stupid free peacock thing even though I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that it'll be a comcast thing where they try to steal money from me.

So I got to the email, which says this:

As a reminder, you currently have access to Peacock Premium at no extra cost, and we’re happy to share that we recently made some enhancements to our activation experience.

(Some instructions here.)

Enter an email address and password to set up your Peacock account.
That’s it! With Peacock Premium (currently $5.99/mo value), you can stream hit movies, live sports – like an NFL game only available on Peacock on December 23* – exclusive Originals, and so much more.

I follow the instructions and I set up this stupid peacock account and I check it out, and nothing works. Why does nothing work? Everything says, "subscribe to watch" and sends me to a paywall. After futzing around with the stupid peacock account I eventually find a screen that says, "You have a 'free sample' account. You have to have a real account to watch anything other than a couple of crappy previews." Then I do the stupid comcast "help" thing, which causes some rural villager in northern India to rise from the fire outside their mudhut and type in, "Hello and pleasant morning. My name is Andrew. How do I help you this day?" So comcast lied to me yet again.

So that's the world these days. The NFL is terrible. Comcast is terrible. Peacock is terrible. There are no ethics in the world, there's no attempt to treat people ethically or honestly. And this playoff game is the intersection of evil, the crossroads where all of the corporate hyenas gather to attack.

It's not about six bucks. It's about corporate greed and evil and a complete desire to screw people over to make six bucks.

Will sports bars even have this horrid subscription? I suspect most sports bars aren't going to mess with getting it.

If he goes to a sports bar he will be paying for something he legitimately didn’t have before though. Some wings and beer to watch the game with on a full stomach.

With Peacock you aren’t gaining anything. You’re losing 6 bucks on something that used to be (and should be) free.
