Agree with all this, except I’d lower their ST grade a bit. Rookie kicker with very limited exposure in the Super Bowl. He’s missing one in this game I’d bet.

The paper favors the Chiefs right now imo, but paper doesn’t fully account for Mahomes in this game.

49ers outplayed the Chiefs in that Super Bowl for a good portion of the game. Then guess what? QBs have to make throws. Ours did. Theirs didn’t.

Wouldn’t surprise me if that happened again (one QB making the throws that are needed, but I’d be surprised if we got outplayed for much of this one).

Yeah - I was going to do that, but Moody has been nails most of the season. He slipped late but really, Gould was on vapors that last year or two in SF - I don't think Moody is appreciably worse than Robbie Gould was in the SB year. And Wishnowsky pretty much sucked for SF in 2019. He's pretty good now.

I prefer their punter to ours and our placekicker to theirs. I think they will use Deebo if they need a big punt return and we just don't have a guy who we'd put back there like Tyreek if we needed to.

On balance I think the STs are about a wash. Because I think the PK may be more important in a tight game, I'll give us a slight advantage because I think the area we have a slight edge is more important than where they do. I guess the 49ers coverage units are pretty shitty, but I don't think we can really do much against them anyway. I probably should've knocked them down to an 88 or so on STs though - that seems fair with them having a rookie kicker and bad coverage units.

Thats too bad, hes been a great addition to the defense.

Sign Frank Clark!!

They played 2.5 quarters without him yesterday, and were therefore down a body bc they didn’t have FAU dressed. It didn’t ultimately matter.

If we lose, we aren’t gonna be saying “if we had Omenihu!!!!”….

And I love the guy. He’s one of my favorites now. But this isn’t even close to like, Mahomes playing with an ankle sprain.

Back by August?

Odell Beckham tore his in the Rams SB win and was out 11 months. That’s the timeline.

Exactly.

I'd trade an Omenihu and a Thuney for a healthy Mahomes ankle 100 times out of 100.

The guys that will make or break us against SF should be ready and at full gallop.

Injuries won't determine the outcome.

Every body and position is different. Wharton was practicing in training camp which was 9 months after his.

The 49ers offense as a whole is better. CMC wasn't there last time. Deebo was a rookie. Aiyuk was in college. This is a MUCH better offense than they had last time.

But our defense is much better than last time. This matchup of our defense vs. their offense doesn't worry me more than the last matchup of our defense vs. their offense did.

And while our offense isn't as good now as it was then, I believe their defense has stepped back even more than our offense has.

If this were Madden Off/Def/STs ranking, I'd say:

2019: Chiefs - 95/80/90 for a 88 overall vs. 49ers -- 85/94/90 for an 89 overall

2024: Chiefs -- 88/95/91; 90 overall vs 49ers -- 90/85/90 for an 88 overall

The parts/pieces have moved around a lot but when evaluating the Chiefs I would say our offense is better than the 2019 defense was and this defense is as good as the 2019 offense was. On balance, we've improved. The 49ers offense, because I don't think Purdy is truly excellent, has not improved as much as the 49ers defense has regressed.

I think the 49ers had a better team in '19 than we did but they got outcoached. This team has a better team than the 49ers, IMO - and won't get outcoached.

All true, BUT, they did have Aiyuk, Deebo, CMC, Kittle, Trent Williams, and Purdy when we spanked the crap out of them in their own crib last season. Granted Purdy was still backing up Jimmy G, and it was CMC’s first game with them and he was slightly limited, but our guys should be able to pull some confidence from that experience.

Ironically Omenihu also missed that game - but for them, obviously.

Yeah, a guy like Rice for example really needs a soft reset and the impact it could have might offset losing Charles.

I think Rice has clearly been playing through some shit and to have him feeling a lot better would be huge. Again, our team needs this week off more than SF did.

Yeah - he's been getting up slow the last couple weeks. Something in his lower body; knee or ankle -- seems to be bothering him a bit.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-29-2024 05:59 PM

I’ll blow some minds here….

Omenihu played six snaps yesterday. 6.

And he made his impact felt with that sack. He’s a beast.

But that tells you right there, they can and should overcome it.

RealSNR 01-29-2024 05:59 PM

That's ****ing bullshit.

Ass dildos.

RealSNR 01-29-2024 06:00 PM

And **** Frank Clark.

yeah, hopefully, he comes back fully healthy next year. Going to need DL help when Jones walks.

Not to derail, but what do we know about Edwards? I don't remember what they said during the game.
