I don't see Veach getting into a bidding war with NE when they have $125M in cap space.

I really think this is gonna be another signing/trade out of nowhere - someone we haven't even been considering.

For this year it’s a net negative. Thuney was our best guard.

This is Patriots move the player a year early rather than a year late cap mgmt.

1) Save $16 mil in cap space from Thuney
2) Save cap space by letting Reid walk
3) Move Kingsley to LT

=

Invest in a high priced LT? I don’t see what else the money could be used for other than maybe an edge rusher or a WR, but the latter seems out of step given we’ve got Worthy/Rice.

Think the next course of action is sign Smith long term, if anything to get his cap number down this year.

Tells me they're signing Robinson.

Thuney could've been a big help if you're breaking in a new or inexperienced LT. But you can't have a green LT AND LG. And they know that.

There's only one fairly reliable LT on the market.

They're gonna sign Robinson.

Not questioning your logic - it's solid.

But holy shit, we do this and it's like a never ending cycle of bad OT contracts. Finally get Jawaan off the books next year only to pay out the nose for a turnstile on the other side.

Love Joe but this makes sense. Praying to O’line Gods to protect Patrick.

Could be.

They're signing a veteran LT they can reasonably rely on.

comochiefsfan 03-05-2025 10:24 AM

I’m cool with it.

One question I have though is if they’re so confident in Kingsley at LG then why wasn’t he playing there through the postseason instead of Caliendo?

BigCatDaddy 03-05-2025 10:25 AM

Can we trade Taylor also and plug in Morris?

Yeah. The 35.5 inch length is going to be too hard for Andy to turn down.

He’ll be the best fit at the position for this offense they’ve had since Fish. I’ll die on that hill probably somewhat lonely.

I mean I wanted us to trade for him when he went to the Vikings. Mentioned him when he was just a rumor.

I think he's a very good fit here. But he won't be as good as his paycheck and folks will just never get over that.

But he'd solidify the position well enough.

Wanya is way worse than Taylor...

Would think the lack of reps. I mean he works all of preseason learning tackle. Flames out. They then about 1/2 through the season start working on learning LG and he looks ok during the Denver game. But I would think it takes time and work with the current OL to learn to pickup stunts blitzes etc. I think he is at a point where he comes into camp knowing the position they want him at and he focuses on that position.

Stanley is reportedly going to re-sign with Baltimore...

"The sense out of Indy is that the Ravens and left tackle Ronnie Stanley can agree to terms on an extension in the coming days," Fowler wrote. "Some inside the league are projecting that deal to land somewhere between $21-23 million per year."

Someone on the socials said it best that this is a move I hate to see, but also totally understand it is the right move

But after the previous year, at a minimum, folks should be able to critically analyze the situation and see that its worth overpaying your LT if they stabilize the position.

I know many still aren't ever going to get there, but my goodness man, I want our QB to be his best self and everyone should see the big picture by now.

Paying your LT 10 or so extra cents on the dollar is more than worth it if it gets your half-a-billion dollar QB to settle his feet in the pocket again.

I'm going to assume he's going to at least test the market with no tag, but it's entirely possible.
