Only if we fail to draft a rb. But realistically he seems to be a good short yardage back and not much else at this stage of his career.

For someone who gets his panties twisted over revisionist history, you sure seem to be a fan of revising history.

mmmkay...what about 2022, champ?

"after being injured 3 seasons in a row before we got him."

Wasn't true.

McKinnon was a perfect role player. Andy Reid can win games without his full deck so we had the luxury of limiting his touches. But he was terrific when we needed him. Tremendous third down back and exceptional in pass protection. I thought perine played that role great but if Mitchell can do that with a little extra speed and gets us the backfield guy who can actually catch passes… I can get behind that.

Okay. The problem is he's never been that guy. Ever. In fact, it's almost the exact opposite of how the 49ers used him. Almost exclusively worked on 1st and 2nd down.

Sassy Squatch 03-10-2025 06:02 PM

Touches by down in his 49ers career.

202 rushing attempts and 10 receptions on first down
106 rushing attempts and 18 receptions on second down
16 rushing attempts and 0 receptions on third down

I genuinely forgot this guy existed.

Who?

Dudes a beast if he can stay healthy. Might be one of the biggest steals

Hopefully that surgery has fixed whatever the problem is. Seems like all of his injuries are to that same leg and a perpetually ****ed up hamstring may have been ****ing with his gait.

That doesn't mean that's how Reid wants to use him or that he's somehow incapable of being used that way.

He has always been solid in blitz pickup and as a receiving back going back to college. I think Andy can mold him into what he wants.

The entire NFL including agents meet at the combine every year. I don’t think they sign this kid without checking in on his health.

Either way he’s a nice lottery ticket that’s cheap.

Meh. Could be a hit, could be a miss. Not mad at the swing.

I don't watch much college football or get really into the draft but I've watched a few Jaydon Blue videos and man he looks like a perfect fit for this offense in the middle rounds

Good ****ing God man. Am I the only one who saw how slow and godawful our RB room was last year without Pacheco? These guys were as fast as Derrick Nnadi with the ball in their hands.

Mitchell is a 1 year depth piece. He’s not gonna be starting. And by midseason he’ll likely be RB3 behind Pacheco and whoever this team drafts.

He’s a young explosive playmaker with elite speed that will likely get 10 or so snaps a game at most. And $3 million is an inflated 2024 $2 million. This was a good move.

This team badly needed speed. The offense was painfully slow and the SB more than exposed that.

Kareem Hunt was a ****ing godsend.

You want to suck ass again in the redzone and in short yardage for thr years prior? He saved our ass last year so many times. We better resign him. Absolutely.

We have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. We aren't going to be a running offense. We just need to have a back that can do it on short yardage and goal. Thats it. Then a second fiddle Jerrick McKinnon type. Thats who we should be trying to find. And honestly Perine was pretty useful in that role. Our RBs were absolutely fine last year.

Kareem Hunt was ELITE AS FK last year in short yardage. You know, the times you are trying to win a football game.

We need to run the ball more efficiently/effectively. Period. The only time(s) I remember Reid leaning into the running game, and running it efficiently, is with Jamaal Charles and Kareem Hunt in his prime. Those RBs aren’t on the roster, and Kareem is no longer that guy. Pacheco never was. Hoping KC drafts a RB, and it forces Reid to do what he did when he had Charles/Hunt.

We did run the ball effectively.

You are looking at YPC.

I am looking at situational running.

We ran the ball 6 times in the Super Bowl. Whatever efficiency or lack thereof is not even statistically relevant in such a small sample and the fact we were getting our asses blown out.

No idea why you would want to "lean into" the running game when you have Mahomes, now Rice, Worthy and Kelce. Makes no sense. Anytime you run willingly when you don't have to you basically are giving up free EPA.

Sometimes you lose. We went 15-1. We lost the SB. Shit happens. Ain't gonna win every year.

Agree, Hunt converted in short yard situations. Much improved from Pacheco or anyone else. But, Hunt doesn’t scare defenses. He doesn’t impact defensive game plans. He doesn’t keep coordinators up at night. We need that at the running back position. Defenses haven’t given a thought to our running game in YEARS. That needs to change in order to evolve. Unfortunately, Hunt just doesn’t have that anymore.
