A player cannot be optioned after 5 years of Major League service time.

ChiefsCountry 04-18-2018 03:26 PM

Holland's arm is shot. It was gone his last year in Kansas City, it was obvious then.

well then they and him have to come up with some BS to go on a DL rehab assignment. We can’t allow him to pitch like he has in games so he can get back on track. This team just isn’t good enough to lose games while he gets in game shape.

Yet he lead the league in saves last year.

Not true.

Holland would need to approve a temporary move back to the minors to finish working on his pitches. If he did let the Cardinals option him down, he would need to remain in the minors for 10 days unless a pitcher on the 25-man roster sustained an injury.

And he broke down in August last year. Holland's that old car that you got back a running and it did okay for a while then when it finally breaks down again you are screwed.

Sucks the Cards spend the money they did on him. Granted it's going rate for a closer and lucky it's only one year.

Its only one year because Hicks is in the wings. Its more money than he is worth but the beauty is they don't absolutely need him for the whole season.

He is just filling a gap for now.

Get him in shape, use him sparingly (with Matheny yea right) and have him healthy and fresh if they make a run.

$15 million risk total for a proven bullpen arm even if on the decline was a good deal. Everyone in baseball thought it was a great deal for the Cardinals. The Cardinals are sitting in piles of money. We weren’t counting on him when they started the season. Don’t cry for us.

Hicks could be the best closer in baseball in a few months. And he will be playing for meal money. And we got 6 years of control left.

He fell apart in August right around when he cut a finger on his pitching hand which gives me some hope.

Give Holland some time to get his shit together before totally burying him. Remember how idiots were burying Pham based on his ST performance? Don't be that guy.

a lot of those pitches they hit weren’t even close to being strikes. most of those hits barely made it through the infield.

if Wong was playing 2nd he would have got to at least one of those balls for the 3rd out with one run scored. In another case, Dejong was playing directly behind 2nd base. The ball is hit slowly up the middle maybe 5 feet towards 2B and he misses the ball.

He's definitely running into some bad luck, but these balls are being hit hard.

Of course another k with the bat on the shoulder.

kcpasco 04-19-2018 03:22 PM

He’s in a funk. Teams are getting him out by throwing outside the zone so he got caught with that inside pitch. Good pitching by Edwards.

George Liquor 04-19-2018 03:28 PM

Serious question. Can all Wong do with a bat is pop out or hit a soft tapper back to the pitcher?

kcpasco 04-19-2018 03:30 PM

5-1 on the road trip with some crap weather so I’m not gonna bitch. The Cards need to start winning games at home. They were under .500 at Bush last year and that’s inexcusable.

He's ****ing awful and has a terrible voice inflection (and a sort of stutter). How a top 3 baseball organization continues to churn out absolute pathetic broadcast talent is beyond me. Chris Duncan gets a ton of radio play too (because of daddy) and he's an ABOMINATION.

He seems like he knows baseball (duh, former pitcher) but something about his voice and delivery threw me off on him. I wasn't a fan last night.

damn :cuss: l don’t have an issue with bringing in Lyons, the issue for me is how in the **** do you let someone who obviously doesn’t have it that day continue to face batters as you lead goes away?

Especially since you have Hicks ready to go. He’s been lights out.

Matheny has the 6th most managerial experience in baseball now. He’s still making the same mistakes he made as a rookie. It’s so frustrating to watch. :sulk:

Waino to the DL with right elbow inflammation. Brebbia called up instead of Flaherty? Are they not wanting the service time clock to start ticking on Flaherty?

I’d imagine Flaherty will be back for the start when needed. Off day on Monday so they may skip a start too.

l like tonight’s lineup the best because of Carp’s mental issue of only exceling in the leadoff position. Also because Molina is on a bit of hot streak. I trash Matheny a lot in here. Just giving him a slap on the back and good job for a change.

Matt Carpenter, 3B
Tommy Pham, CF
Jose Martinez, 1B
Marcell Ozuna, LF
Yadier Molina, C
Dexter Fowler, RF
Paul DeJong, SS
Kolten Wong, 2B
Luke Weaver, P

If you're only getting .175 out of Fowler , they might as well run Bader or O'Neill out there. Not to mention the Brew crew are playing those suck ass Royals right now so we'll need to sweep to keep pace.
