Why are people so worried about CB's? Posters are acting like we have a ton of first year guys out here.

Peters is fine, Gaines is in year 3 and the big question on him will be health, not talent, and Nelson is in year 2 and is looking like he's really comfortable + he's showing up in practice.
Russell is most likely the only rookie CB that will play at the position and he's gonna be the 4th corner.

He seems like a depth bolstering pick in case Gaines gets hurt again and he'll have value in a year or two if we have to let Gaines walk

100% agreed.

That's not even exaggerating. His speed and quickness in and out of breaks is nothing short of full blown elite.

This kid is gonna be a star.

I dont get why some fans doubt Philip Gaines, well other than the fact that indeed he might be fragile. I personnaly thought he was going to be better than Peters last year but obviously Gaines got injured and Peters was much better than I thought he would be.

In the end, I think fans are doubting Gaines just the same as they were doubting Kelce after that injury. Hopefully it turns out the same and Gaines become a great #2CB, which he easily has the potential to become IMO.

The homerism here is great. If Denver lost its best corner and safety were holding out this board would say it's the demise of their defense. The fact remains there's a shit ton of questions about the secondary. I'll wait til week 8 to judge one way or another.

Umm no. Sean Smith is not better than Marcus Peters, especially not going forward. Also, we lost Smith, but we did get back Gaines and we have more young talent at the position that we've ever had.

What does Berry's holdout have to do with anything? He's not missing any games.

The Chiefs lost their best safety?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm as soon as Sean Smith came back did ummmmmmmmmmmmm the defense not improve? Ummmmmmmmm Sean Smith is no longer a Chief so he's a JAG now. I got it. Meanwhile we get back Phillip Gaines! An average player without 1 career INT

I never said they lost their best safety I said best safety holding out. You know damn well if this happened to the Broncos the Homer's on here would be comparing Denver to the 2003 Chiefs defense.

Actually when Smith came back it solved the RCB spot, but it still took a couple weeks to replace Gaines. We never really did replace him either, as the issue popped back up again in the Pats game.

Smith wasn't the only reason this defense improved. Poe and Berry gettin back to form was also a big part of it.

I'm not saying we won't miss Smith at all, but we also won't be replacing him with Jamell Flemming either.

To be fair to Sutton, we ended 2014 with the 2nd best secondary despite losing Berry to cancer and Marcus Cooper early on to bad play.

We went the entire season with no #2 CB and the second half of the season with no Berry and still had the 2nd best secondary in the league, playing a slate of very tough QBs.

Gaines does not look hobbled at all, looks completely fresh out there. The one practice I saw, Steven Nelson looked excellent at nickel.

We also had a terrible run defense and low scoring offense. I think the #1 pass defense stat may have been inflated.
