Could Harris be the TE on the bubble? Seems like he's had a pretty small impact so far.

The difference here is the Broncos won solely on the strength of their defense, so losing their best corner will impact them more.

The safety holding out really has little to no impact.

This team, while reliant on defense to win games, has also shown it can put some points on the board when it's clicking, while Mark Sanchez might lose games for them, Alex Smith won't for the Chiefs.

No. Harris just signed an extension and is locked in as the #2.

We also had a terrible run defense and low scoring offense. I think the #1 pass defense stat may have been inflated.

I don't think anybody really believes we had the best secondary in the NFL, but it does mean they were more than adequate.

The defense didn't improve with Smith? That's a lie.

Our top 4 CBs have like 2 seasons worth of starts between them.

We got our asses kicked with him in Cincy. Peters had 7 INT's after Smith returned.
Remember Sean Smith getting his ass kicked in NE?

Every CB gets beat, but few CB's make a ton of plays. Peters made play after play after play last year and that's the difference.

Sean Smith is an above average CB, but he's not elite by any means.

Fair enough but traditionally Smith has relied on his defenses heavily stats back that up. I think this offense will slightly improve PPG but has the potential to be a great ball control offense. I think that's exactly what we'll need til mid season when Houston comes back and some of the younger guys are more experienced.

I wouldn't say he's locked in for #2.

RossTravis has some real talent and I think Osaunnesy is on the bubble unless they can stash one on IR.

staylor26 08-07-2016 02:13 PM

2013- Marcus Cooper
2014- Phillip Gaines
2015- Marcus Peters

This teams second best corner every year has been a rookie. We aren't counting on any rookies this year (barring injury). The inexperience concerns are overblown.

I think Travis is the better player long term, but Harris's blocking solidifies him as the #2 for now.

I think that's understating it a bit.

Neither Nelson or Gaines have an actual full season of full time snaps under their belts, os we are really relying on inexperienced corners, with Peters as the most seasoned of the group.

The first game back after not playing in a month the second was a poorly schemed game with no pass rush from the interior, a washed up OLB and a situational pass rusher who tapped out.

I don't know if Smith is elite he was certainly damn good the last few years. Great coverage average ball skills. Gains is good coverage but below average ball skills. Here's the problem Peters will get thrown at less but the guy on the other side isn't going to pick anything off. I hope I'm wrong and maybe a guy like Nelson wins and plays outside we'll see. I like Gaines much better in the slot though.

The Chiefs defense did not immediately improve with the return of Sean Smith. They gave up 36 to the Bengals, allowed a shitty Bears offense to score on its final drive (after they lost Gaines, BTW) and were fortunate enough to face the Steeler's 3rd string QB.

Sean Smith wasn't superman.
