I disagree. I don't see it as cowardly as all. Smith was able to return the team to respectability and hold the reins until the right quarterback came available. The only quarterback that was worth drafting prior to Mahomes was Carr. Carr would have been nice. But I'm happy with Mahomes. We'll see who has the best career. If Mahomes is no better than average, then they probably messed up waiting so long. But if he ends up a generational talent, then it was worth every snap that Smith took.

His level of play was so average, they could have returned to respectability with Reid and a lot of cheaper options at QB.

I'm glad they have Mahomes and have finally moved on from Alex Smith. They got lucky and had that work out.

I'd rather have spent 2013 and 2014 picks that went to San Fran on cheap young players at other positions.

They overpaid to be not terrible at QB. Could have paid less for cheaper placeholders.

Meh. We went from the literal worst team in the league to the playoffs in the first year of Reid/Smith. I know it doesn't appeal to anyone here, but the team needed to appeal to the crowd that just wanted to see a competent football team again. Shit was ****ing dire the last 2 or so years of the Pioli era.

WTF?

Dude, good luck finding a QB that will suit up and be healthy for almost five years. Seriously. It's like you all forgot about the Haurd, Thigpen, Croyel, Brady Quinn, Orton, Cassel shit show years.

Tell me who was available in 2013 that could have provided equivalent play and been a steady placeholder until we found Mahomes.

What an awful take. It couldn’t have worked out any better for us and to chalk it up as getting “lucky” when we aggressively made a move to go get our guy is beyond ****ing reeruned.

Didn’t know trading up 17 spots for a QB is “lucky” good to know. Lol at his use of lucky. How did we get so lucky STaylor26? Sometimes you have to ignore the idiots man.

Carson Palmer. Cards stole him for a 5th and made a conference title game.

Chiefs could have won 0 playoff games at home with Matt Moore or Josh McCown too...

Andy Reid claimed Mike Vick off the scrap pile and got to the playoffs with him.

Alex Smith was overpaid for in trade and then overpaid again with the contract extension.

You have ZERO appreciation for the going rate for QBs.

Chiefs paid Smith 67 million, about 13.5 million a year.

A lot of money sure, but not for a QB that is going to start pretty much every game for five seasons.

Red Dawg 02-12-2018 06:45 PM

Palmer would have been better but we got Mahomes and now Fuller. Glad we went the route we did.

Hoover 02-12-2018 06:46 PM

Palmer would have never stayed upright in KC with our Oline for the past five years.

From 2014-2016 we paid starter's money for a QB who delivered backup QB play.

He was vastly, vastly overpaid those three seasons.

That is the appreciation I have for Alex Smith vs "the going rate."

Keep digging the hole, you sound like an idiot/

Four playoff appearances in 5 years.
Back to Back AFC West Champions

Yeah, we have not done shit in the playoffs, got it. That does not equal a over paid QB. In fact Alex has been decent in play off games.

He was not over paid.

ROFLROFLROFL

You act like he was the driving force behind all of that shit.

Defense and running game did the heavy lifting for this team for four damn seasons, while he played like Damon ****ing Huard circa 2006.

But Andy overpaid for his previous QB too so...not surprising.

Kiimo 02-12-2018 07:04 PM

You know, both things can be true. He can be not really responsible for getting us to the playoffs, not really responsible for the losses and still be slightly underpaid, which he was.
