I know we won a bunch of medals, but there are quite a few areas in which we need improvement. Our downhillers are marginal, our curlers suck ass, and our skaters are getting their butts kicked by countries that don't even get cold. The US Olympic committee needs to get it in gear.

There's no shame in getting fewer short track medals than Korea. They are so much better than all other nations, its not even funny. It is almost like a generation ago they had a big national meeting to pick 1 sport, decided it would be short track in the winter olympics, and they direct all their best athletes at that sport.
The USA is good at it just because of our sheer size and enormous focus on athletics. (and most of us dont live in mountains like in Europe) Think about it, some nations are basically all soccer and nothing else, the USA is probably more focused on general athletics per capita than almost any other nation, and the population size takes care of the rest.
Korea is just the world's short track skating factory. We are only good at short track because of the odds, at some point with our culture and size we'll just happen to produce a couple good ones every few years.
