I did too. Haven’t made it through the whole thing yet. 15 minutes in , I had to shut it down. Too many feelings.

Watched it last night. As a person who was not connected to the city, I found the doc pretty compelling. It did seem a little too hyper focused on a very few citizens, and could probably have been a 3 episode miniseries, but I was pretty riveted by the stories told.

My band played down at Nzoner's music festival like a week or so later in St. Joe. We converted all our revenues from CD sales into raising money for the disaster. Seemed the least we could do. That was crazy to say the least.

How is Joplin doing now? Would have been nice for them to do a little follow up 14 years later.

The thing that probably best illustrates how powerful that tornado was, is the fact that if you go to Google Maps and look at the Satelitte View of Joplin, you can still, 14 years later, clearly see the exact path it took through the city.

Right. The lack of trees in the residential areas is a giveaway.

Also, you can see in the rebuilt neighborhoods vacant lots where some homes were never rebuilt. Makes you wonder if the people who lived there before died, opted/couldn't afford to rebuild, or just said **** this, I'm moving to the mountains.

I watched the Netflix show last night. Could have done without Rapture Boy, but it was okay. That's some next level harrowing shit those folks went through. Never knew about the fungal infection stuff. Gah.

Sometimes in disasters, people just vaporize. make a life somewhere else and never go back.
