Kyle Busch wins a wild one at Talladega http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/e2/fu...aron_s_312.jpg TALLADEGA, AL - APRIL 16: Kyle Busch, driver of the #18 Z-Line Designs Toyota, celebrates in Victory Lane after winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series Aaron's 312 at Talladega Superspeedway. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/55/fu...aron_s_312.jpg NNS: Kyle Busch Survives Wild One At Talladega TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP)—Kyle Busch won under a yellow flag in a wild finish Saturday, taking the Nationwide race at Talladega Superspeedway when a crash sent Mike Wallace’s car flipping upside down. Busch won for the fourth time in seven Nationwide races this year on a day when tandem racing produced a series-record 56 lead changes, 11 cautions and two red flags to clean up all the debris. Even Busch got caught up in the mayhem, getting spun out in a 21-car crash. But, after his crew patched up the Toyota, he hooked with Joey Logano in a powerful duo that surged past Trevor Bayne and Carl Edwards for the lead on the second attempt at green-white-checkered finish. When Wallace got turned upside down on the final lap, that assured Busch of the win. |
Mike Wallace's car begins to lift off the ground during a wild last-lap crash at Talladega. http://static.foxsports.com/content/...76_600_400.JPG TALLADEGA, AL -- Mike Wallace not only had a wild wreck, he flipped on the backstretch on the final lap. “I’ve never flipped in my life,” said Wallace, who was fifth at the time he got turned. “That was the first time that ever happened to me. I’ve never been on my roof in anything I raced. … We came off of [Turn] 2 with a huge run in the middle of the straightaway and the next thing I knew the thing was sideways and then it got really quiet. “Then it was like, ‘This is not going to be really good.’ But it didn’t hit anything really hard, and I said, ‘We’ve come this far, I’m not quitting.’” The tap that made Wallace spin came from Sadler, and Wallace didn’t seem upset with Sadler, saying that he gave him the push he needed to win the race, it was just a bit too hard. And then Wallace was along for the ride as a tap from Jason Leffler caused his car to lift and roll. “I knew it didn’t hit that hard [when it landed],” Wallace said. “It was more of a side-catching, caught the tires and got the thing in the air. I just wanted to finish. “I’m very happy everything is fine [with me]. I’m very disappointed the car is tore up and very disappointed we didn’t finish in the top five.” |
