ChiefsPlanet - Chiefs Earl Thomas a longshot to be a Chief

Last I heard from the talking heads on ESPN was that a sign and trade is not possible in the NFL. You have to make the trade and then work out a contract. Just going off what I heard. No idea if thats true or not.

Why would ESPN get something that basic wrong? Are you telling me that Thomas and the Seahawks aren't trading Thomas without a long term deal in place with the new team?

Not quite. You would work out the contract with the agent. You couldn't SIGN the contract until the trade was completed. So yes, they would agree to a contract in principle, execute the trade, and then sign the contract.

I did check, and Thomas DID start following the Chiefs on Twitter yesterday. So that part is at least true.

To my understanding, he follows a lot of teams. Wouldn't be surprised if his agent told him to, to create smoke.

For what purpose? either he's getting traded or he isn't, and certainly the agent would know better. He can call any GM directly, I doubt he needs to bury a twitter follow so that the most hardcore of nerd message board fans can create smoke.

I would, however, say that Thomas hears wind of KC being interested and follows them to see if there's any smoke, but I doubt it is to create said smoke.

Chris Mortenson releases a report that the Chiefs have re-ignited trade talks for Earl Thomas. Or something like that, after reports that the Thomas/Seattle situation has gotten worse and he's not attending meetings/practice regularly.

Some other talking head confirms that the Chiefs were having talks with Seattle for Thomas back in the offseason.

Andy Reid gives a blank, "That's not where we're at" comment regarding the rumors.

A bunch of Rando's on the internet are floating rumors of Chiefs 2nd/3rd picks for Thomas, 4 yr 55mill.
