Not making excuses. The Jayhawks need to play better. But this should not have been completely unexpected. Let's see what they look like on Friday.

Yeah, happens every year... there are no takeaways or anything. College kids sleepwalk through uninteresting game.

I rarely even watch those kinds of games any more... I think the only benefit would be at best you're watching a scrimmage and might catch the deeper bench guys at the end... and at worse, you're frustrated you just wasted two hours of your life watching shitty basketball.

I watched the first half of the game last night. Daughter wanted to watch a Christmas movie so opted for that in the 2nd half. As a teenage daughter, she rarely wants to be in the same room with me any longer than being able to ask for money so I had to jump at the opportunity. Looks like it was closer than it should have been.

Kenpom means nothing this early, especially regarding midmajors and lowmajors.

That team was clearly much better than the other lower-rated teams KU's played.

That EIU team beat Coppin State by two points less than two weeks ago. Coppin State is the 2nd worst program in the country by KenPom this year and regularly one of the worst overall.

That was a truly horrific performance by KU yesterday.

It's not just that. People are focusing on Furphy's shooting but also forgetting he does little else. He has 3 assists all year. 0 blocks. 4 steals. He's averaging 2 rebounds a game since the UK game. He isn't a particularly skilled ball handler and I don't think he has any post moves to speak of. The UT game kind of shines a light on what his game is right now. He played 11 minutes and hit two shots but did literally nothing else on the stat line except pick up a foul. For a guy that isn't quite there on defense, he needs to contribute in other ways, but that isn't happening. His shooting has also regressed. Since the UK game he has taken 2 more 3s than Timberlake but only made one more in total. Considering how bad Timberlake has been, that isn't exactly a good thing.

I think Self would be open to moving KJ around in the lineup but the fact is that despite his deficiencies, KJ is simply a better option overall than anyone else we have.

Agreed, he's got no real choice but to play KJ big minutes on this team right now (which unfortunately makes it much harder for them to score against any team that sends pressure at Dickinson).

Dajuan needs to shoot more threes. When hes open...just ****ing shoot. Too timid from behind the arc.

Who cares? In March, nobody is going to remember that we beat EIU by less than 10. Nobody will even remember we played them.

Well I do for one because I watched that trash for 2 hours yesterday. And considering he coaches the team, presumably Self does as well.

And I don't know if that performance "means" anything in the grand scheme of things. I'm just commenting that it was really bad by any standard.

First off, Self loves shit like that. The coach in him now gets 40 minutes of game tape to coach the kids.

Second, team was tired coming off of a trip to Hawaii / Thanksgiving. You could see they had almost no energy.

Third, we have a legit game ahead on Friday. Much like the Chiefs do some weeks, sometimes you just don't have it and think you can sleepwalk through a game. It's natural. KU brought a D effort yesterday and won.

I'll be concerned if we look tired/low energy on Friday night.

"Truly horrific" is way overboard. They shot 50% and held their opponent to 39%. 11 steals and 11 blocks.

It was underwhelming, but again, I think you have to give the opponent a little credit. Against the other low majors they've faced, KU's walk-ons were on the court for the last 10 minutes of the game. They could have beaten their first opponent by 75 if they'd wanted to. This team was clearly above the level of those teams, even if only for one night.

You're misremembering. The team actually played great in the first half.

Well... they played well. There was some great defense, though. Great ball movement. The second half overshadowed it. Go back and watch just the first half.

It's 2:15 and no buzz in this thread...

I've got an Xmas party I am going to tonight. Hoping they have the game on or I'll be watching on my phone.

What? Who does a Christmas party when KU hoops is playing? You need better friends.
