A confrontation this morning between an East Texas church and an evacuee from New Orleans. It centers around a sign out front of Woodland Hills Baptist Church on Old Jacksonville Road in Tyler, about a mile inside the loop. Some say the message is offensive.

"I drove by that sign and was just horrified when I saw that," says Kelly Jackman who now lives in Tyler but used to live in New Orleans.

That sign at Woodland Hills Baptist Church reads ,"The big easy is the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah."

Kelly along with her sister Robin Lafont, an evacuee from New Orleans, showed up this morning at the church to talk to the man who put it up, Pastor Wiley Bennett.

Bob Dole has it on good authority that this thread made the baby Jesus cry.

Lzen 09-08-2005 04:17 PM

Without reading the whole thread or even the whole article (got about half way through and that was enough), I'll say this....Sounds to me like this is that town's version of Fred Phelps. It's a shame that these folks use a tragedy like this to spread their message. And it's an even bigger shame that they tarnish the Christian religions by doing this. I know this makes it easy for folks to bash religion and Christianity in particular. But let me tell you, this IS NOT what Christianity is all about. At least not my belief system and my views on Christianity. I really don't see how they can say an entire city that size is like S & G. :shake: What about all the churches in that city? Pathetic. :( Non-Christians just remember that for every one of these idiots, there are hundreds and thousands of good Christians that are doing all they can to help with the relief effort. These people like this don't represent the majority of us.

About 4 billion women just groaned and asked, "okay, who's the idiot who just said that?"
