I understand, but I have seen a lot of that sentiment here the last few days. I think Shanahan is looking at next year and seeing one stud WR (Walker), a young guy with "upside" (Marshall), a gimpy third WR (Smith - had hip surgery today and is out 4-months minimum), and a top-notch pass catching TE (Scheffler) that can't block worth a lick. With Graham, you get a great blocking TE that is underrated as a pass catcher. Having a guy like Graham takes a lot of the pressure in the running game off of Scheffler, and a lot of the pressure in the passing game off of Marshall. You'll see a lot of two tight-end stuff next year, because the two tight end formations won't be all that different than the 4 WR formations, skill-wise.
So, in other words, I think Shanahan sees it as a need.
Personally, I would have probably bumped the offer for Kerney, because our pass rush is abysmal. But what do I know?
