Oh yeah no doubt about it, but people only seem to remember the last decade or so. It is no different than K-State basketball. People forget about the great years because they've been bad for the last decade.
Personally I think you only go so far on tradition. KU has been bad at football for a long time. Just like K-State with basketball. When you've been bad at a sport for over a decade that's what people see and eventually you are what you are. Most of the people that go to K-State currently weren't even born or where so young they don't remember the last time they did anything meaningful in basketball. Last year was the first time in almost twenty years they've done anything and it wasn't much, but it was a start. I think both fan bases are ready to explode and embrace their down sport. Look at the support K-State recieved after just one year. That was a perfect storm type thing with Huggins and the kids he lined up for the program. Eighteen months ago we where stuck in the Woolridge rut and now most Wildcat fans can't wait for basketball to start.
I hope KU can get something going with their football team. It would make the rivalry an even better one if this game meant something like it does this year. I can't remember the last time these two teams actually met with a legit shot at winning the North. It has been one sided up until the last few years and K-State is down a little bit right now. I don't want these games to be close because they are both mediocre. I want them to both be legit Big 12 North contenders. Kind of like basketball this year. There will be so much anticipation for these two teams to butt heads this year there will be somebody posting an official game thread a week before the game.
