I'm not saying the Cowboys need RB, but they'd really like another, and Stewart's by far the best player on the board by my measure. Yowza.

The Cowboys believe they'll be able to get a starting RB on the 2nd day of the draft, due to the depth at that position.

However the Cowboys used a 2 and a 3 on OT's last year...I'd think they'd value WR and CB the most in this spot....

I really don't like some of these players and think they are going to high but it's all opinion right? I don't think Cason or Cherilus are 1st round players. I don't like Sweed either but he'll go in the 1st because teams get enamored.

Yo Milkman you're up.

Williams provided us the best value at that spot. Jerry really wanted Limas Sweed or Antoine Cason, but they went right before we picked.

Jerry Jones/htismaqe is feelin' the heat!

BUST!!! REACH!!!

Several draft boards had Williams going to the Texans, so I don't feel it was a reach at all.

Well I think your pick is a reach so how about that? Especially for a cover 2 team....

That's a fair point. I think I'd eschew worrying about compliments/carbon copies, though, if Stewart was really still available at #22. I think he's potential Top 10 material.

I'm with you on Sweed -- I've voiced this before but I can't shake the notion that he's just a more athletic version of Dwayne Jarrett, a big, sure hands guy who can't shake defenders because he's too slow.

I disagree with you on Cason, though. Cason played well in a conference loaded with WR talent, was very productive and plays very aggressively and with lots of savvy. I think he's the kind of player that'll continue being effective well into his thirties because he seems to be a very sharp reader of routes. That'll compensate for him when his (already unremarkable) speed starts slipping.

Cromartie, McKelvin, Jenkins -- these are all CBs that sport a lot of upside but they are projects to varying degrees. I think Cason is as ready to start on Day 1 than any CB taken so far in this Draft, maybe period.

I think Cason is basically the ideal Cover 2 corner. He's not incredibly fast but he's a pretty good tackler and very savvy.

Edit: Plus he returns kicks.

Just giving you heat.

Sweed is faster than Jarrett is but if you wanna rip him for things, he's constantly injured doesn't play fast, is rail thin and was never really dominant on the field...this years WR class is a bunch of 2's and 3's there are no potential 1's.

I just don't see a cover 2 team taking a corner in round 1, and if they did I suspect they'd value Talibs size because the cover 2 system values size and tackling ability over pure speed because no one has to cover man on man...

Tampa to me would undoubtedly go Kentwan Balmer here if it broke this way...in my view anyway.

You think they're really struggling for DT help, though? I know they've got Ryan Sims for god's sakes (LOL), but I didn't think they were valuing DT that much from the Bucs info I scrolled.

I think they'd value it over corner....he fits their defense they took a young DE last year...deep corner year in the cover 2...

Now they may look at OT's with how that position looks for them.

htismaqe 03-07-2008 03:07 PM

Really, when Cherilious was selected the pick before, it forced my hand on Williams. Williams was right there on my board and WELL ahead of Cherilius, I wanted to get in before a run started, especially with the fact that my I actual needs are at the 3 deepest positions in this draft.

I like their DT rotation, though. They're solid with their rotation, certainly most than most teams, with Hovan, Haye, and Peterson, with Sims playing only a handful of snaps. This is a win-now team and they're looking to fill in a couple remaining pieces before they make what they believe to be their Super Bowl run in 2008.

Now I was thinking about taking Williams for LT and moving Penn in, and Hilliard is certainly not starting material at WR. But I value Cason about as much as I do Williams, and more than any remaining WR. I really don't like Buchanon as a starting CB, though, so with all these things in mind I thought Cason was a fair bet.

I see your point, though. But that's just my reasoning.

Williams was way ahead of Cherilus on my board, too. He was Top 20 to me, whereas I had Cherilus teetering between the bottom of the 1st and the top of the 2nd.

I just got home from work.

The Steelers select Brandon Albert, G out of Virginia.

I'll be around to talk about the pick later.
