He's still going to get bitched by defensive ends who are stronger than him or faster than him.

Well, there are two ways of looking at that, Mr. GoChiefs. O-line is the epitome of teamwork, no doubt about it. I'm sure that almost all of us would agree that cohesion in that group is a critical component to success. Then, there's the pesky problem you point out ... namely, the line is only as good as its weakest link.

I've said this before (probably too many times), but Herm seems to grasp onto certain maxims which he believes to be true and sticks with them come hell or high water. In this case, it's the notion that you have to have consistency on the offensive line. I don't know if he understands that that concept only trumps the decision to replace players if you're reasonably successful. It seems as though he would prefer to have the same players on the line consistently rather than have consistent execution from whoever is playing. Just another oddity in his brain function.

And that "direction", Mr. Rausch, is what I had originally hoped Gailey would bring to the Chiefs. More than anything else, I had hoped he would look around at the talent available, evaluate our strengths and weaknesses, and help us establish an "identity" as an offense - a specific, particular way of approaching the game that the guys could both understand and execute. As you say, a "direction" that, if we stuck with it, could ultimately lead to an identity the guys could buy into. Like Marty's teams' physical approach, or DV's teams' finesse.

In our first pre-season game, that hope was bolstered when we ran the boots and rollouts with some success. I thought Gailey had come up with a way for this particular group of guys to compete. A way to approach the offensive game in which our guys could focus their talents, improve over time, and ultimately excel.

Then, when it counted, we went right back to Solariball. Then, we rolled out the Sloption.

Yeah. When a guy takes a look at our talent, and decides we should run the option with a practice squad WR, it kind of sucks the fun of watching a developing young team right out of ya. All hope dies, and that identity we've been looking for turns out to be a guy with big shoes, and a red nose giving shwinn bicycles to kids for throwing ping pong balls into cups from increased distances.

TONY AND THIGPEN: GAY LOVERS?

My suspicions were raised by this quote a week ago:

http://kan.scout.com/2/790624.html

Quote:

“We just haven’t done that much with Tyler,” said Gonzalez. “That’s how it goes, but there are no excuses. I knew he was going to get a couple of snaps. But once Damon went down, his package expanded, and that limits what we can do because we haven’t had that time together.”
Now this quote may confirm it.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2008/09..._thigpen__918/

Quote:

Q: How much are you working on your timing with TE Tony Gonzalez?

THIGPEN: “We stayed after practice yesterday and we stayed after today, because those are the things we’re working on. I feel like he and I have definitely gotten on the same page. That’s one thing we wanted to work on, we talked about it in the shower after the game. We worked on that this week and we’ve gotten a lot better at it.”

At this point, I've resigned myself to assuming a more Zen-like approach to Chiefs fandom, Mr. beach tribe. I've decided that whatever is going to happen will happen and there's nothing I can do about it and nothing is going to change - unless or until Herm either proves to the world that he's the most misunderstood genius in the history of the game or he's gone. In the meantime, I can only observe and marvel at the sheer magnitude of Herm's moronicalism.

I am, however, extremely interested in knowing the answer to this question; What was Herm's idea behind running the Sloption? I have yet to hear anyone fully explain this either from within or outside the organization. Has Herm said that he believes it to be a viable tactic? Has he said that it was just an experiment? Has he said that Gailey's success with the Slash offense indicated it would work for us? I'd really like to know how and why that decision was made.

- Wow the Chiefs are simplifying things even more this week.

Is it possible to simplify first and second down runs up Niswangers ass and then a third down pass to anyone who is open? The Chief's are playing pop-warner football and the rest of the NFL has caught on to it..

Yeah, but one of our QB has proven he sucks for over 10 years. The other two have a chance (however small it might be) to actually grow into something.

It's one thing to sit here and talk about how much yo uthink all these guys are failures, but the truth is it's in the benefit of the Chiefs and every Chiefs fan to have one of these young guys turn into something.

Just had a thought here, if Thigpin were to go down and not finish this game due to injury, that would be 3 QBs in 3 weeks. If that were to happen, would Croyle's injury still be because he is injury prone or the OL stinks?

I'd still say it's because he landed on his throwing shoulder with a 270-pound linebacker on top of him. But I'm told I'm crazy and that 'real' quarterbacks take that hit 7 days a week and twice on Sunday and never miss a beat. Throwing shoulder schmoing shoulder. Grit yer teeth and get back out there, kid.

If this was Brodie Croyle he wouldn't have a head anymore..

Good point! Seems Herm gets alot of QB's on the IR regardless of O-line dose he not? Honestly, I think the guy does a great job drafting players who can PLAY. Problem is, he does not know how to coach.

Thank you very much, Mr. BIG K. Dang. Finally. That's the best dadgum news I've heard in months. Simply awesome to hear.

Uhh ... just one thing, though ... when do we get to see them do some of that playing stuff?
