I'd compare her giffing to Ulysses or "Hugh Selwyn Mauberly"

good lord no, that's ridiculous for too many reasons to list

UP is all New York School, Frank O'Hara and Ted Berrigan....

Sorry to hear it UP, you really help keep this place interesting...wildly abstract humor never goes out of style.

We'll leave a light on for ya.

I love it, too. ChiefsPlanet's pro wrestling fans have consistently proven themselves to be among the board's most intelligent and knowledgable posters, yet are greeted with the familiar refrain of "only rednecks and reeruns watch this shit." Its a delicious sort of interplay.

You could pretty much insert some of the comments immediately preceding Reaper's to apply to any cultural norm from bygone eras and it would ring just as hollow.

Ehhh, i guess you mean me?

How does it represent the hollow cultural mores of a bygone era?

Alas, King Leopold sent his men to the Congo for the purpose of spreading civilization and decorum to the great unwashed masses. And spread their civilization, they did.

I don't "get" wrestling.

The drama, the spectacle, the athleticism. Ok, fine.

But the total package doesn't work for me.

And I am, Kurtz, Hamas.

People who look down on others who watch "rasslin" think that they are a monolithic group of "It's still real to ME DAMMIT!!" when 90% of the fun is the ridiculousness of the product mixed in with genuine performance art

Since I have no knowledge of wrestling or its fans, would you say that the vast majority are enthralled by the over-the-top antics, the pageantry, as opposed to the "sport"?

Wrestling fans are a diverse breed. Most of the ones who post on here are ones who look at the "entertainment" section like MST3K while yearning for the storytelling that accompanies a great match.

This.

I'm sure that most adults who still dig wrestling, started out like me as a kid, believing it...but as they got older began enjoying it for what it is, a mans soap opera.

I quit following around age 20, but was quite into it 'til that point...ordering the PPV's, went to an awesome match...almost every biggy but Jake the Snake & Hogan himself were there, '90 in Springfield Ill.

These guys really do take some hellacious abuse for others enjoyment.
