Bernie Miklasz reported it about three weeks prior to the trade being made. Evidently the Cards insisted on Boggs instead of Perez (the Indians declined).
Once the Cards waffled, DeRosa started crushing the ball and Perez wasn't enough anymore. Also, there's no telling if DeRosa gets hurt if he was traded earlier (butterfly's flapping wings and all, there's a good chance he doesn't).
It was just more evidence to me that Mo wasn't ready for prime time. I'm still not convinced, the Holliday move was pretty much something that had to get done and most believe he overpayed, but at least he's not completely nutless anymore.
We're still living off the fruits of the Jocketty regime; I certainly hope Mo can do some of his own digging soon enough.
