Sean Smith three year deal worth $18 mil. Adding to the entry.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

Early returns on #Chiefs Sean Smith's 3-year deal: 3 years, $18 million 11 guaranteed. Won't have breakdown for a bit, though...

Then here is my question....and it's an honest one.

If you're drafting strictly BPA....which Dorsey said that they do.......

What happens when Geno Smith is your BPA and you can't trade down?

Duh. You draft Geno and make Daniel your 3rd stringer. Geno and Alex fight it out for starter. :thumb:

Not a bad deal at all

penbrook 03-14-2013 12:24 PM

I hope we're just insanely aggressive on defense this year, i'll concede a few big plays if it means smashing the shit out of everyones QB... particularly cap'n fivehead.

Just Blitz Baby

This is going to seem like a defense of Pioli, but it's meant as a more general thing. Deals are easier to make at lower prices this year, because of the flat cap and all the resultant cuts. Very few contracts have really bucked that trend even though we've just been through what's usually the big spending part of free agency.

My guess would be Dunta plays FS next to Berry.. right?

No way; leave him at nickel - put Arenas at FS; Arenas is a liability on an island in man coverage, and he's terrible in the slot as well. But he's not completely horrible in zone coverages, because he is smart and has some knack for being around the ball - he's heady, and could possibly work as FS.

We'll see plenty of 3 and 4 WR sets anyway...can't have enough DBs in this league, period.

As I said Friday night, Chiefs were still interested. Saturday morning when they talked to Canter, he wanted 8 million a year.

Chiefs told him that won't happen, and they backed out and sent the info to Mike Florio that they were no longer interested.

Smith had interest from SF, Detroit and Philly but all kept insisting on the 8 mill in the early part of Tuesday. When other comparable corners signed for 5, th Eagles signed Fletcher, the Lions kept Houston and the 49ers shifted their focus to Nnamdi.

Chiefs called Canter Tuesday night and re-opened talks now that the price tag was coming down. Smith never took a visit on Tuesday night like was reported.

They cut Cassel this morning because they got to a comfortable number with Smith and needed the space.

Chiefs all along said they were in the 6 mill ballpark and Canter made the numbers work. Smith entered this seeking a 5 year, 40 million dollar deal with 24 mill guaranteed and got 3 for 18 with 11 guaranteed.
