Well sure it's a combination. But, say for example, the Jones contract pays him ~100 million or whatever.

That money comes out of the cap. The 'Mahomes' money could have gone into second contracts for other players on D or other FA signings.

The Jones deal basically has to be done by free agency otherwise we may be keeping sneed.

Nick Allegretti is probably gone too. I have read/heard he wants to be a starter somewhere.
