Are there any studies/labs/experiments on Cold Fusion currently going on?

I'd be curious on any progress that happened.

Val Kilmer stole this information from Elisabeth Shue. Authorities are still working on the case.

Face it, we need oil, lots of it. The Chinese get it, the Russians get it, the Saudis get it, WTF can't Dumbocrats get it?

Oil=power, economic independece, the very blessings of liberty.

So ive noticed. What gives?? People are using less and selling off those SUV's?

Big picture is that crude has dropped from highs in the $140s/barrel to $120s now. Demand in the United States is down ~4% That's significant.

That depends on how much crude drops. I doubt that it will go anywhere near the price per barrel to get close to $2.00. I think $3.25 - $3.50 would be a better guess.

luv 07-28-2008 09:58 AM

I went to put some gas in my car a few days ago. The guy filling up on the other side of the pump says to me, "I never thought I'd ever see the day when I was glad to see gas at $3.48/gal."

On my way to work this morning, I noticed that it was down to $3.44.

Must be nice. It's still hovering right around $4.00 up here (certainly higher in the City), although I've heard there are places in the area where it's just below $4.00.

But you're right; after the assraping we've endured, $3.50 does seem cheap, which I suppose is the idea.

But that part of me that thinks paying more than $1.00 a gallon for anything a bunch of inbred cavemen pump out of the ground is too much will never go away.

It's all part of the diabolical plan that the oil companies are carrying out. Jack the prices up to past $4, then let them settle out. And pretty soon, people are happy about $3.50ish - just like that guy - and they don't even think about when it was $2.50 or so. :)

Bowser 07-28-2008 10:23 AM

What I find funny (and disturbing) are these car dealers selling new cars with a promise of fillups at the pump for 2.99/gal, like that is some kind of otherwordly deal for the consumer. If I didn't know better, it would seem like we the people are slowly being forcibly accustomed to the high price of gasoline.

How come gas prices are dropping (for now) yet diesel is not dropping at all? Seems they should both be going down at the same rate no? Only thing I can think is the supply...consumers are using less gasoline, but truck drivers are not because they still make the same deliveries as before...? :spock:

Donger, what do you think are the causes of the falling prices? If the high prices were caused by supply and demand, is the demand now that much lower? Supplies that much higher?

Lots of things, IMO.

The dollar is gaining strength.
Demand is decreasing here.
Etc.

Just a hunch, but I think that folks are starting to realize that crude was way overvalued at $140+ and that the bubble may have begun to burst.

I agree with this. People just quit driving as much, and when they had to, they used the most efficient vehicle that they have in their garage, planned their trips etc.

That, the fear of our economy lessening demand further scared the speculators. Very real grounding of Jets, quantifiable numbers that showed the driving was less, and the market turned bearish.

That, and the fact that oil has become a serious issue on the Hill, has spooked the market for oil temporarily.

Bowser 08-08-2008 02:08 PM

Iowa has a state tax of $0.20 on gas.

Kansas is $0.24

Kansas has a higher tax on diesel than Iowa by a few cents, so something else is up there. I think Kansas has a few refineries that refine diesel, too.

Anyway, swings of ~$0.20 aren't unusual in metro areas. Look around on gasbuddy.com and you'll see.

Interesting. I didn't realize states swung so far on their respective taxes.
