Well, I'm glad to read that she's at least healthy enough now to be at home and answer the door to her house.

I think losing her job is an appropriate consequence for her actions. Being crippled in a car accident or serving significant jail time would be a harsher consequence than she deserves.

Not really an update.. There was no way they were going to retain a probationary teacher even with alleged misconduct.. We will not know until she is charged with a crime if it was true.. I mean with all of this evidence supposedly it should be easy..

Just about every state has statutory rape if it is a teacher or supervisory figure and a student under 18. For example, in Iowa, if you are 29, you can legally rail a 16 year old. If you are a 22 year old teacher, you go to prison if it is your 17 year old student.

I understand the frustration, but I don't think the solution is to throw a young woman in jail for having sex with a young man who could easily pick her up and break her in two if he chose to do so.

I agree that we don't want hot female teachers seducing students. I just think the appropriate punishment is to fire and publicly disgrace the hot female teacher, which is what has happened here.

They have consent laws because the underaged are not considered capable of giving that consent, and they have the teacher laws because of the argument that the teacher is in an inherently unfair power position. Neither situation is about physical strength.

I believe there is actually a "Romeo & Juliet" factor they take into effect when charging, sentencing, etc.. in Kansas. I think the severity is reduced if the case falls in this category.

If I remember right, its that both consenting parties have to be within two years of the consent age. So, person A can be no older than 18 and person B can be no younger than 14, for this special category to be taken into consideration when charging and sentencing.

What about if it is a 5 year old goat? Is that a double whammy?

The metro teacher who was injured in a car crash hours after an investigation was launched into sexual misconduct allegations in March has now been charged.

Former Shawnee Mission West High School teacher Michelle Preston, 27, has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual relations.

In March, police launched an investigation after a nude photo of Preston was shared by students. Preston is alleged to have had relations with three different students.

The former Psychology and World Geography teacher was then in a single-car accident where her car left the cliff ledge and vaulted onto the opposite side of embankment of the creek.

Her contract at the school was not renewed. Preston's first court appearance is schedule for October 4 and Preston is out on bond.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — Former Shawnee Mission West High School teacher Michelle Preston was sentenced Friday to 36 months probation for having sex with her students.

In April, Preston, 28, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sex with a minor. Preston’s attorney, Scott Toth, said although her crimes carry a 31-month to 13-year prison sentence, by pleading guilty, Preston will not serve any prison time unless she violates her probation. If that occurs, she will spend 32 months in jail.

Preston must also register as a sex offender. However, under the agreement, she can have her record wiped clean in three years if there are no violations.

When asked if Preston received leniency because she is a woman, the Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Keith Henderson insisted that under the same circumstances a male teacher could have received the same sentence.

“I would have not handled this case any differently had the defendant been a man,” he said.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said all the victims in the case supported the probation punishment.

“Each of the victims in this case were over the age of consent. They were 17 and 18 years old,” he said. “We’d be having a totally different conversation if the victims were under the age of 16.”

In March 2011, police launched an investigation after a nude cell phone photo of Preston began circulating among students. Preston later admitted to having sex with at least two of her students from September to December in 2010. She admitted to initiating contact with the students on Facebook. She then began texting them and later invited them to her house.

Preston reportedly had sexual relations with one teen boy at least 15 times. That boy’s DNA was found on a couch cushion in her basement. Another boy said he had sex with Preston at least once and had made out with her on the same sofa. A third student said he never had sex with Preston, but did “make out” with her in her basement.

In March of 2011, hours after police launched their investigation into Preston’s activity, she was injured in a one-car accident. Police said her car crashed after it drove off a small cliff and vaulted onto the opposite side of embankment of the creek.

Preston and her husband are now the parents of an eight-month-old girl.
“She’s got this newborn,” said Preston’s attorney, Scott Toth. “She’s got a family, just wants to work towards the future at this point.”
