This isn’t a government imposed limit on speech. Everyone is free to be a bigot, a misogynist, or homophobe, or any other flavor of jerk they chose to be. There are millions of them walking around free with no threats to their liberty. However, if you want to represent an organization or be thought well of in polite company or avoid being a bigot, you have to pay attention to feelings of other people. You cannot openly use language or practice attitudes that are known to be offensive for decades. Which is what Gruden did. Yes, this is a moving target, but so is language in general, technology, NFL defenses, and so many other thing that our daily lives depend on. As much as some would like to argue to the contrary, this isn’t a threat to our way of life or the foundations of our country.

backinblack 10-13-2021 08:57 PM

find it weird to go to bat for Jon freaking Gruden, someone who's been overrated as a coach since at least 2004. Was he stupid for putting that shit down in documented writing? Yes. Is it kind of dumb this is such a huge deal right now? Yes. Is it really that egregious that the guy was forced to quit being the mediocre coach of a mediocre team? No.

Who the **** cares the guy lost his job? It's not like he was any good at it. Maybe if he was still at MNF in this current year and was forced to step down because of this I'd see it.

And in an nfl locker room it's not cool to embrace the bundle of sticks. And it's not masculine to not participate in sexual harassment, right? The cancel culture argument works both ways. Maybe Gruden didn't deserve to be canceled. But you know who also didn't deserve it? Kerry Rhodes. Or the WFT women who had the audacity to blow the whistle then got shit canned for it.

It doesn't work it you protest cancel culture in favor of reverting back to a different version of cancel culture.

There is a push back to see in regards of cancel culture. Look at Dave Chappelle and his new special on Netflix. People realize that it's gone to far but in this case, it was just plain stupid by Gruden to put this in writing, regardless of cancel culture.

He was the only coach I thought would be able to turn that franchise around. Even though they hadn’t done much the previous three seasons, I still remember him as the one that turned the tables of the Chiefs dominating the Raiders. Part of me likes to see him go, but definitely not this way.

There is this concept from the Bible that we are all supposed to live by. It is called the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

That same guy who gave us that code to live by told us to love thy neighbor as thyself.

There are plenty more like that in the directions from that same guy for how to be a good person.

How long has that email investigation been going on now? He got on the bad side of Roger and that's the main reason he is gone. Seriously the Raiders are over the hump, they have talent and a big beautiful stadium and a state that will attract free agents, they will be fine and probably be better off without Chucky , it just rubs me wrong how people can publish and pilfer though private communications and dumbasses like Randy Moss can literally cry on tv because somebody said someone had Michilin Lips... No, not Jesus.

The sad thing about the actual statements in the NT about the gays is that it doesn't say it's any different than any other sin that causes spiritual death. People focus on that one sin out of a long list of sins that "Christians" likely commit on the regular.

Of course they were... the NFL saw an opportunity to create sympathy for DeMaurice Smith and help keep him in the NFLPA leadership position at a time when there were rumors he might step down or be replaced.

And amazingly "coincidental" timing... DeMaurice Smith gets re-elected to serve a new term as NFLPA Executive Director last Friday.

Also the NFL has hated Gruden for years... going back to when he was a MNF announcer and would constantly criticize the refs. The chance to end his career, while getting their DeMaurice Smith goals accomplished was icing on the cake.

I think it is very possible that Andy Reid has never sent an e-mail in his entire life.

Amazing the mental gymnastics people like you go through to rationalize your disdain for a black man that doesn’t follow the woke gospel.

Try jumping into a time machine to the 90’s and convincing most of the people on this board that Gruden’s hateful rhetoric is worth defending or that Whitlock is even a decent journalist if you want to talk about mental gymnastics. I mean Whitlock is working for some Glenn Beck conglomerate now according to Wikipedia yet he’s still discussed on this board like he’s a part of the national media scene still. I don’t think anyone outside of that little echo chamber even realize he is still alive.

Whitlock is a lot like Joe Rogan, you can always tell when someone is talking out their ass about them and only knows what they regurgitate from others or only know them from 15 or 20 years ago and assume Whitlock is still partying his ass off and Joe Rogan is still doing Fear Factor.

Exactly. Yet people like to compare him to national media journalists. I guess I can see why he despises Lebron so much. King James probably had 500,000 Twitter followers in high school before it was even created.

Yeah right, he despises Lebron over twitter followers. He despises Lebron because Lebron is a shitty human being who hates cops and white people. The hypocrisy that has come out of Lebron's mouth is proof of how stupid he is.

NFL removes all coaches, players, and fans who have ever said anything bad about anyone. Only Tim Tebow remains. Lmao. Babylon Bee.

Not surprising, really, when you consider he has had everything handed to him thanks to insane physical gifts and talent. Lebron is the sports world equivalent of a child tv/movie star. Coddled, pampered, surrounded by sycophants, uneducated, and completely self-centered/narcissistic. That is a sure fire way to ensure a person turns out shitty. JWhit merely points it out; people gasp and swoon because he also happens to be a black man. He's not wrong, he's just heretical...aka "off the plantation", aka thinking for himself (thus my/many person's respect)

Yea, that’s why he despises Lebron, not because he does shit like this:

Guarantee you it took like 5 tries for Lebron to spell accountability correctly.

I agree, but it's important to other owners for some reason.
