Integrity matters.

There’s no such thing as integrity. There’s winning and losing and flipping is clearly proven to help with the former at this level of basketball.

KC_Connection 11-10-2022 08:41 PM

The non-Udeh minutes this half (which is all of them except 4) have been ugly. Intensity just not there.

See if Leipold could make a tight end out of KJ Adams

He honestly has to be playing the wrong sport. So is Kyle Cuffe. Just become a DB bro.

It’s not about liking or disliking (although they are both probably on the dislike side for me); it’s knowing that what they do has value to winning.

KC_Connection 11-10-2022 08:46 PM

I haven’t seen anything that would suggest why Cuffe has a scholarship with this program.

I'm well aware of your stance on this from the Smart days of course, but am also well aware of your thoughts on refs steering games and what not.... and these two things don't compute for me.

Players doing stupid shit creates more rules, and those rules are often subjective. People say if you want to stop flopping, then start calling it.... yeah, so you want refs to determine what is and isn't a flop on any given play?

Sure, they probably wouldn't call it a ton, just like the flopping rule in the NHL.... but, I'd rather players not be clowns and not force leagues to create even more rules and more reasons to stop games and potentially help decide outcomes.

That play on Udeh is going to be called a foul far more often than it is going to be called a flop in basketball (and especially at this level of basketball). When the games start mattering, nobody is going to have the balls to make a call like that. It's going to be like how the refs always crack down on touch fouls early in the season and then let schools like West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Texas play football on a basketball court once you get deep into conference play.

KC_Connection 11-10-2022 09:02 PM

Anyway, I mainly just wanted to see Udeh play more. He's clearly going to be one of this team's best players (and maybe its most valuable player if things break right). I want him confident and developing with playing time, not sitting on a bench as punishment because he exaggerated some contact on an elbow.

Mr. Plow 11-10-2022 09:07 PM

What was the score? Guessing KU looked good from some of the comments.

Calling techs for clear flops will help reduce them. Its never going to go away but you can clean up a lot of flops by calling techs. Refs are human, they fall for flailing bodies for fouls. The less flopping there is in basketball the easier it is to ref and calls will be more accurate as a result. Id go so far to even have a crew review flops after the fact and call techs late (next dead ball). The NBA should do this badly.

You want the NBA to start calling flop technicals on Steph Curry and LeBron James who do it multiple times a game on offense? Never gonna happen.

Yes. And so does everyone else. They will adjust. Would quite possibly be the best thing the NBA could do to improve right now.

Flopping is not a skill - or shouldn't be. And it can easily be curbed with the right rule implementations.

I want them to. No they wouldn't have to call it multiple times a game for long.

The NFL doesn't have near the same problem.

But evidently the fans that still watch the NBA are okay with it. I watch a few games during the finals and don't take it too seriously.

If you aren't flopping as much as the refs let you get away with...

Your an idiot.

Yeah, and CBB is hard enough to watch at times now, and the NBA is unwatchable most of the time... so players can choose to be clowns and have even more whistles/stoppages/subjective bullshit if leagues ever start cracking down on it.... or to not be clowns and have some integrity for the game.

LMAO

But I guess enough fans will...

Chief Pagan 11-10-2022 10:47 PM

And I hope they do their best to keep it out if college.

I would use TV time outs to review fouls and call technical on flops.

Chief Pagan 11-10-2022 10:49 PM

But if they don't stop it, sure its just another part of the game like being able to take three steps without being called for traveling or throwing your body into a defender to draw a foul.

It was better back in the day...

No MJ Rice (illness) or Clemence (****ed up nose) for tonights game vs Duke.

RockChalk 11-15-2022 01:58 PM

Early enough in the season, where adrenaline and lack of fatigue will allow the main guys to play most of the minutes anyways. Unless Dick/Wilson get into foul trouble, I'm not all that concerned with missing MJ/Clemence.

He's made the Final 4 as much as anyone else and has as many titles save for K and Wright since he's been at UK.

He's missed the tournament twice since he's been at Kentucky. Realistically, in terms of "choke" relative to the team's performance during the season + talent, I'd say twice since he's been there (2015 vs Wisconsin, 2022 vs St. Peter's).

2009-2010 they had a suspect three shooting team and shot poorly from 3 vs WVU in Cal's first year.

2010-2011 they were a 4 seed that lost to a 3 seed UConn that won the title with a hot Kemba.

2012-2013 was NIT year (that's on Cal).

2013-2014 they were a 7 seed that beat an undefeated Wichita St. before losing in the title game to an 8 seed UConn.

2014-2015 greatest choke job Cal's had at UK.

2015-2016 they lost as a 4 seed to a 5 seed Indiana that a really good center (Thomas Bryant) when that team didn't have a good center.

2016-2017 they went through a gauntlet before losing as a 2 seed to a 1 seed that won on a near buzzer beater in the Elite 8.

2017-2018 wasn't very talented but lost in the Sweet 16 in a weak region to a mid-Kansas St. (I didn't have high hope going into the season and they met my expectations.

2018-2019 they lost to an Auburn team in OT in the Elite 8 that was on fire that beat UNC and Kansas along the way.

2020-2021 was a terrible team and that's on Cal.

2021-2022 was a choke job vs St. Peter's.

Since he's been at Kentucky:

1 title
4 Final Fours
7 Elite 8s
8 Sweet 16s

Self for reference during that time period (2009-2010 season to now):

1 title
3 Final Fours
6 Elite 8s
7 Elite 8s

They've only not made it out of the first weekend since he's been at Kentucky 4 times since he's been there in a completed season (2013, 2016, 2021, 2022). That's happened to Self 5 times in that same time period for reference. The idea that either of these coaches are chokers is bullshit.
