It's like every day we freak out over a different thing that never comes to pass.

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals recently made a two-year, $26 million offer to free agent right-hander Ryan Dempster, but dropped out when the bidding got too high.
The Royals are talking to multiple teams about a trade for a top starting pitcher, but they also continue to monitor possibilities in free agency. Dempster doesn't figure to come cheap after posting an excellent 3.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 153/52 K/BB ratio in 173 innings this past season between the Cubs and Rangers. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday that the Brewers, Red Sox and Angels are in the mix. Source: Kansas City Star Nov 29 - 5:18 PM |
I've got to say, by all accounts the Royals have really been making a push this offseason to improve their pitching. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they do in the coming months. If they really can nab a top-flight starter (and ditch Hoch/Chen), next year could be fun.

BOB DUTTON IS FULL OF LIES. THE ROYALS ARE BROKE. WE ARE NEVER GOING TO SIGN ANOTHER PLAYER EVER AGAIN. IN FACT, A YARD SALE WILL BE HELD IN THE K'S PARKING LOT THIS WEEKEND TO SELL OFF OUR REMAINING PLAYERS. WE SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD A BASEBALL TEAM AND INSTEAD WILL FIELD A TEAM OF WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBEMEN NEXT SEASON. THANK YOU. [/Dayton Moore]

If the Royals get one more decent pitcher, doesn't have to be an ace, but if we at least have 3 #3's, keep Myers, and get rid of Hoch, I'll attend more games in 2013 than I ever have in any other season, and its a long drive from Des Moines.
|
I still think the city as a whole is just waiting to become a baseball town. One more pitcher, a top one, could do it. The K would be 30,000+ every Friday and Saturday and would easily average 20 K the rest of the games. Even Glass wouldn't be able to do math funky enough to cover up the massive profits.

Two years ago after Hosmer and Moose were up the Royals were drawing 30K in September on days the Chiefs were playing.

Kudos to Dayton for the Paulino signing. Best news of the day for me.

Well, happy Luke Hochevar day, everyone.
Sometime between now and 11PM, we are either going to be very happy, or very pissed. |

Petro's opening on this yesterday is available on podcast. It's a good starting point for SaveourRoyals.org.
He made Glass out to be a complete liar. |

I know this is going to make everyone happy ...
Royals agree to terms on a 1 year deal with 2b Chris Getz avoiding arbitration. |

I really don't get royals fans on the other board flipping out over Gio. He's a good guy with a great family, but he was utterly horrid in 2012. Yeah it wasn't many at-bats, but he's also just not good enough to be patient and hope he figures it out, his defense is worse than Getz his bat was always supposed to carry him, and he hit quite a bit worse than Getz which is incredible considering that he was previously known as Chrisiesky Getzancourt. Maybe Gio will beat him out in spring training.
We have no good option at 2B. Gio doesn't have much of an upside, and Getz is probably capable of repeating his unimpressive sub-par 2012 where he's at least better than replacement value. |

What they really need is a rangy second baseman to help make the great up-the-middle-D pay off (and help the lacking-range Hosmer). Or, if you're going to play a guy who has merely average range (like Getz), get someone with a big stick. Pretty far down the totem pole of priorities, though. I just read a Mets forum thread about Wil Myers. Their fans think Myers straight up for RA Dickey OR Jon Niese (that's OR, not AND) is completely fair. ANd some think its an overpay. Good for a chuckle. |

what if the dude was a HUGE Royals fan and was like..."**** it...make a push for Greinke and I'll pay half his contract for 20% of his ticket sales every home game he pitches for the duration"
|
which would probably be like $1.5M a season...for 7 seasons...so he'd spend $75M for $10.5M! **** that! Not worth it.
|
Billy's good and all...but he's no superstar and he's a DH. Can't imagine the market would be that huge for him.

Angels trade for tommy hanson Think they gave up a lot ? |
DKnobler @DKnobler
Hanson goes to Angels for Walden Wow didn't really give up much. |

I'd say the Angels made out like bandits on that one...cheese and fries!

I realize Hanson has some warning signs, but wow... straight up for a reliever (albeit one with closer stuff)? When the Braves have Kimbrel and Venters already?
Seems like they could have used Hanson to get more... |
Wow.
The medicals on Hanson must be really bad. That said, there is a belief from some that Hanson will either need to scrap his entire delivery (which has an odd hitch in it that's causing his shoulder to overload) or move to a relief role anyway. It's still a great trade for the Angels. I'd have gladly traded Joe Kelly to the Braves for Hanson if that was the asking price. |

tick-tock. up to 8.5 hours left.
Put up your predictions now, I say Hoch will be non-tendered. |

Hoch will be non-tendered.
.... and replaced by Jair Jurrjens after he's non-tendered by the Braves. :p |
The Royals will send Hoch to the braves for Jurrjens.
Wait, i'm doing it wrong. |
As a Braves fan as well, i'm surprised they got Walden TBH...Hanson's value has never been lower. I like Walden too...frees up more $$$ to get a LF bat too.
Good trade. |
