It makes sense for some people. I'm not doing it, but I moved to Minneapolis knowing almost nobody and my job doesn't exactly allow me much time or energy to go crazy with extracurriculars (where it's often best to meet potential dates).

I still meet people to date through every day life, but only in very infrequent situations. I have a profile on a free dating site, and I can attest to the fact that women worth my attention are scarce there. If I go several months after my recent breakup without a single promising date, I might just consider signing up.

I work in the aerospace industry in a specialized test area so most of my work travel is to various test facilities around the country.

I avoided engineering jobs that required travel because I hate it (plus had young kids at the time). I've had to do a little for training but it is pretty infrequent now.

It's challenging. I get to work with a lot of hardware (component-level, CCA level, system level), do some design, analysis, etc. but there's also paperwork, hand holding, and bureaucratic BS that goes along with any large corporation.

The test trips are good & bad. I like being in the field testing but the facilities we rent are typically 24hrs so we usually rent 48-72hrs at a time split into 12-hr shifts and sometimes I take the night shift which can be rough. The facilities are also expensive (~$1k/hr) so you better make damn sure your test is ready and things are checked out when you're there to maximize time & $$.

I like to travel and I don't have anything (wife, kids, pets) keeping me from traveling. You get to know your co-workers pretty well on these trips and we've built a pretty good team so it works out.

Its a real shame when 2 people connect so amazingly well but don't get together due to various circumstances, be it one of them is looking for more looks/money/confidence in their partner. Or just bad timing or setting.

I've beeen dating the same woman for like 14 months now. Haven't had any CP time since I knocked her up, but I still check the site once in awhile. I'm really excited to be a dad. Missed anything around here the last couple months(not necessarily this thread, but on CP in general)?
