The writing and acting pretty much sucked last night. On paper, I'm sure the idea was to make Dale very likeable and sympathetic before the surprise attack and death. Didn't really work.

When they had that debate in the farmhouse over the kid I just fast forwarded it.

Wow, I took that character test and graded out as Dale. Total surprise, because I had really come to dislike him. He was too whiny, and too much of an extreme -- the "moral conscience" had become an annoying prig, IMO. Plus, the actor had fallen into one annoying mode: the wide-eyed, mouth agape, "How can you do this" pleading.

Dude, it's a zombie apocalypse. You shouldn't be surprised how anyone acts under these circumstances. Make your case better than whining, scolding and acting like you can't believe anyone would dare think life had suddenly become a zero-sum game.

Anyway, it's now moot. Good riddance.

EDIT: One other thing: My son has read the comics and said Dale is a lot cooler there.

I assume you mean Carl, not Shane. And yeah, I thought the kid was a real PITA last night.

I thought for sure he was going to use the zombie as target practice and develop his bloodlust. Was surprised how it all turned out.

That seems like it's plausible, though. He's tuned out, and he's letting Rick be the law enforcement.

Yep, he's become a pretty worthless character (though not quite T-Dog worthless). Don't know if the writers didn't know what to do with him after his epiphany, or if this is just a lull. We'll see what happens at the end of the season.

He should have tossed Andrea on her ass. Andrea left his daughter and she slit her wrist. If Maggie didn't get back in time she'd be dead. I can't imagine Herschell being okay with that. Piss poor character development.

And WTF is up with Dale stringing up dead animals around his tent? Aren't zombies attracted to fresh killed animals like Rick's horse in the pilot?

Agree to disagree, I guess. I think his behavior seems reasonable for the character.
