I don't buy the Bowden rumor. Doesn't seem legit.

Maybe. Seems like with a popular home town guy there is going to be some PR work. They can at least say they tried

Didn't he rip a muscle off the bone?

Are you talking about Gordo?

If so, no. He might have had a partial, but if it was clean tear around the groin, he wouldn't have been back this season.

Oh ok. Thought that was the issue and wondered how he came back so soon and at his age.

We should all be thankful - Alex the most, because a clean tear around the groin is a nightmare on a completely different level than even a nasty partial tear.

I remember watching a game where Jake Peavy tore his lat muscle off the bone. It was rough. He just yelled and his should went limp. He couldn't move it.

Watched a buddy tear his hamstring off the bone while waterskiing.

It just become a bunched up glob in the back of his leg. The doctor said it looked like shredded beef from all the damage. He had surgery, but he'll never regain full strength.

I was surprised to hear that once you hit your mid to late 40's, the ability to fully heal the hamstring is pretty much shot.

A full tear, they obviously secure it back with the bone, but if it's a partial, even a bad one, and you're not relatively young they won't do surgery. You pretty much just have to wait for the trauma to heal and get by with a significantly weaker leg.

I slipped on ice and shredded my hamstring I looked up my injury and it said water skiing can cause it so it's possible I had the same injury as your friend...it was ****ing awful.

Thanks for posting. I hate Ike Taylor far less now.

My condolences. It's a Bitch to deal with while it heals. I'm dealing with a complete fracture of both my tibia and fibula - each at 2 spots! Both broken a few inches below my knee AND both broken just above my ankle. They had to put in a rod the length of the lower leg, 2 plates, and 6 screws. It happened about 4 months ago, and I've only been able to walk on a limited basis for about 6 weeks at the most.
Eventually, they say I will be back to normal without a limp. It still constantly hurts, and my balance and the amount of weight I can put on it is really shakey.
I've done a great job of regaining my full range of motion, but what worries me is in the last month it doesn't seem like I've had much improvement.

They say it usually takes over a year, but I've been diligent on what they recommend for a full and quicker recovery yet it seems to have reached a point where there it hasn't been improving week to week.

So, who knows what the timetable will be once I won't have to hobble around everywhere?

@jcrasnick: Scott Boras has told interested teams Denard Span will be available for workouts after New Year to show he's healthy.

@jcrasnick: #Mets, #Orioles, #Royals, #SFGiants and #Padres among clubs that could fit for Span if he's recovered from September hip surgery.

No on fat denard span. Please no.
