1. Watson doesn't want to be there, so why wouldn't you try to get something out of him?
2. This only worsens the ability to get that "something" out of him
3. In the event that no deals can be made, do you really want to keep Watson at this point?
4. If the allegations turn out to be true, you're likely either not going to have him anyways...

Virtually every word typed or spoken about the Texans was the Texans suck. Watson should get out.
Tarnishing Watson at least gets the constant barrage of how shitty your organization is. It’s kind of like the last gasp cavalry charge. A tactical retreat is probably more strategically prudent, but not giving the enemy the satisfaction is sometimes important. And let’s be real here, Houston probably can’t execute a rear guard action.
Bottom line, Houston is incentivized to change the news cycle.
