If Shanny had to "pretend" to look for work, his boy Schefter wouldn't be saying "I'M TELLING YOU IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN, THEY HAVEN'T EVEN SPOKEN" at the top of his lungs.

I think the Chiefs were about to negotiate with Shanahan (or had already started) and another interested party jumped in.

Hence going from "negotiating" to "targeting".

I believe this is all a smokescreen to get Cowher to piss-or-get-off-the-pot and reconsider coaching the Chiefs NOW in a perfect scenario for him...rather than sit out until 2010.

ESPN news ticker now says that a chiefs are targeting shanahan, but a "team official tells chris mortensen he does not believe shanahan will be hired."

Mortensen has come off his claim that this was a done deal. I saw him on NFLN saying not only a team official has told him it probably won't happen, but also that Clark Hunt will keep this under the vest and it will be a guessing game until it's done.
