Sorry that the school you like only has one overrated program.

LOL

Never go full Rusty, man. TCU claiming college football championships is even more of a stretch than a couple of the early ones claimed by us in basketball.

This is incorrect.

Are you really rolling with the 1938-39 season where TCU eeked out a thrilling victory over the juggernaut Carnegie Tech Tartans in the Sugar Bowl? If so, then yes, it's even more of a stretch than some of our claimed basketball championships.

TCU holds two national championships in football, one from 1935 and the other from 1938. In 1935, TCU spent most of the season ranked No. 1 in the country before losing a regular season game to then No. 2 ranked SMU in the "Game of the Century." SMU went on to lose to Stanford in the Rose Bowl, while TCU went on to beat LSU in the Sugar Bowl. Since the Associated Press and wire services didn't award national championships until 1936, TCU recognizes a statistical poll created by Paul O. Williamson who awarded his national title to LSU and TCU for the 1935 season. The 1938 team was undefeated and was the consensus #1 team in the Associated Press Poll.

They were. And it was only a few years ago.

But by all means, please hang your hat on the 1930's if it makes you feel better.

Well since you asked; and since the era means little to you in this argument...

1891 - 7-0-1 (technically counts since you said "undefeated")

1899 - 10-0

1908 - 9-0

RockChalk 04-07-2015 12:19 PM

Looks to me like we have 2 national championships we should be claiming in football. At first, I didn't care much for your NC standards there KC Native, but this really works in our favor.

Was the forward pass even allowed in those years?

Yes. And all three times are as relevant today as TCU's "Championships" in the '30s.....meaning not at all.
