It is pretty insane how much this one move will improve things on the back end if it works out. Knocks McDuffie back into the slot primarily which hopefully knocks Connor back into the high safety and gets Cook out of that role. Potentially improves at least 2 positions on the field substantially.

Was more about that scheme he was in. He's clearly really good in press coverage. He graded out better than Sneed last year. I mean take that for what it's worth but he's a clear upgrade in that department over what we have now, depending on how fast he gets up to speed.

Sneed was never going to grade well on PFF last year because he was taking the hardest assignments possible play after play after play.

And got penalized a lot, which hurts a grade. Only tossing it out because I think it was (I'd have to look it back up) that he was top 10 in press and in press he gave up zero TD's over the whole season.

So he's basically coming off his best year as a corner and really excelled in press last year.

That's at least hopeful for us.

Steven Nelson has been a legitimate starting corner for the last several years. Not elite, but solid to good.

He and Josh Williams outside with McDuffie inside is a pretty damn sticky trio, MUCH better than putting Nazeeh outside or Conner in the slot.

He really carved out a nice career post-KC. I know he was a little bitter about leaving, but who cares at this point? I'd sign Joseph Stalin if he could cover Josh Palmer.

So is he starting Sunday?

Hey

Imagine if this actually works out.

Could you imagine telling your 2018 self that in 6 years, Steven Nelson is going to be brought in to shore up a secondary looking to threepeat?

Hahaha. I'd have myself committed.

Kman34 12-10-2024 11:33 AM

I really think he’s a depth signing… I really don’t expect much.. Anything more than that is a bonus..

JPH83 12-10-2024 11:36 AM

Man Veach isn't going to die wondering. Uche, Thomas, Humphries, Nelson. Obviously Hopkins worked out, but if we get just one more of these stepping up to average it'll be massive.

Would absolutely f**king love it if Nelson ends up an average CB in coverage and McDuffie is back in the slot.

TheGuardian 12-10-2024 11:41 AM

The Uche signing hasn't panned out so far at all. Not even sure what's going on there

Yep, really would like to see them use him more. Our pass rush is horrid and we have zero speed at DE
