This one is for Red!!! Die you Nazi bastards!

Oh wait, I am the navigator. Guess I better make sure we are not headed to Greenland again.

Well, we've got the first mission jitters out of the way. Sorry to hear about Cannibal's thumb though. Course, they say chick's dig war wounds....

Next time, we'll keep 'er on target.

I'm getting nervous, I understand how Psi was feeling earlier.

A drag? I thought it was fun. Just looking out the window seeing all the pretty colors. :bong:

Plane #17 – Deep Red

Pilot lazarus
Copilot morphius
Bombardier EBOLA
Navigator Hydrae
Engineer BrainCase
Radio Op. nmt1
Tail Gunner brent102fire
Ball Turret Gunner mmaddog
Right Waist Gunner DaKCMan AP
Left Waist Gunner Chief Roundup

Target: Deep Red draws the less common target of the railhead in Amiens.
Mid-formation horizontally, high vertically (moderate vulnerability)

In a routine check, the ground crew finds RednFeisty stowing away in the bomb bay and advises her that it would be a bad idea to stay there. Then the plane rolls…

Zone 1 Out: Britain
No enemy

Zone 2 Out: English Channel
No enemy

Zone 3 Out: France (Entering Target Zone)

1 FW190 attacks

Nmt1 fires, misses

FW scores 1 hit
-superficial damage to bomb bay (Boy, you hold your breath when the bomb bay gets hit while the bombs are aboard…)

FW circles and attacks again.

Ebola fires, misses
Mmaddog fires, misses

FW misses, breaks off attack.

Entering Bomb Zone
Good Weather
Medium flak - misses
Nice bomb run by Ebola – 20% score

Zone 3 Back: France (Leaving Target Zone)

3 Me110s attack – 2 are driven away by fighters

Brent102fire fires, misses
Braincase fires, misses

Me misses, breaks off attack

3 Me110s attack

Chiefroundup fires, misses
Ebola fires, misses
Hydrae fires, misses
Brent102fire fires, misses
Mmaddog fires, damages Me110

Me misses, breaks off attack

Me scores 2 hits
-superficial damage to nose
-superficial damage to nose

Despite taking a strong hit from mmaddog, the damaged Me presses into Deep Red and does the now infamous strafe across the entire fuselage - 6 hits!
-superficial damage to tail
-hit on waist knocks the ball turret gun out of commission (mmaddog is uninjured and turret is still operable, but mmaddog must stay in place to keep heat and oxygen. He is now a spectator unless another position opens up.)
-superficial damage to port wing
-superficial damage to starboard wing
-lazarus is killed by hits to the right leg and right upper back
-the pilot’s control cables are damaged but not inoperable

The damaged Me breaks off its attack. The undamaged Me circles and attacks again

Braincase fires, misses
Ebola fires, misses

Me scores 1 hit
-superficial damage to nose (hydrae and ebola continue to dodge bullets)

Me circles and attacks again

Brent102fire fires, misses

Me scores 3 hits
-starboard wing root damaged
-port wing root damaged
-bomb bay doors damaged, drop open

Me breaks off attack

Zone 2: English Channel

No enemy
Morphius slows down, unsure of the extent of damage to the structure from the last three hits. Several other undamaged B-17s slow down to help provide cover so he doesn’t have to drop out of formation.
Mmaddog moves up to pilot’s seat to ride along and help morphius if needed.
Bad weather sets in, so hydrae has to guide the plane since it’s no longer with the main body of planes.

Zone 1: England

The B-17 base is socked in by rain. Morphius must make a landing in bad visibility with slightly damaged control cables. Welcome to the pilot’s seat!

The landing is good.

Aftereffects

The military investigates morphius’ “jokes” about killing lazarus, but with the testimony of other crew members he is quickly exonerated.

Eligible for next mission

Pilot Morphius, promoted
Copilot EBOLA, promoted
Bombardier Hydrae, promoted
Navigator BrainCase, promoted
Engineer nmt1, promoted
Radio Op. brent102fire, promoted
Tail Gunner mmaddog, promoted
Ball Turret Gunner DaKCMan AP, promoted
Right Waist Gunner Chief Roundup, promoted
Left Waist Gunner XXX

(Heh-heh. I swear, it was a coincidence that you lost lazarus on this mission.)

You had a good excuse for missing, though. Five flak hits is a lot during your bombing run.

RNR 01-24-2004 09:24 PM

lazarus was fraged, the things guys will do for a redhead :shake: This reeks of cover up!

morphius 01-24-2004 09:24 PM

So Rain, that means you are going to put Red on the next flight, correct?

Not to bad of a run, for getting shot all to hell. Probably a good thing we didn'g kill Laz before takeoff.

Did the plane I hit go down?

Rain Man 01-24-2004 09:25 PM

I'm suspicious too. He had eight witnesses, but still...

Zebedee DuBois 01-24-2004 09:26 PM

This is how the superstitions of "having a woman on board bringing bad luck" begins.
